Defensive Staff Next Year?

After further review, it is determined that the kid who made the tackle grew up in Ohio. Obviously, that makes the tackle not count. We will award the offense a touchdown, and they get the ball back at Ohio State's 15 yard line.

I get it. My point is that kids from Ohio will many times end up in S&G. The issue I see is to stay in the hunt with the likes of AL, you need the best from all over. Depth.

Something OSU is lacking in that area.

I would like to agree with you

I would like to agree with you. I just don't see the elite you are referring to. This program used to be linebacker U.

When is the last time OSU got a 5 star LB recruit?
A quick look at the 247 composite shows that Ohio State's last 5 star (before this year) was in 2017. The same year as Alabama's last 5 star LB recruit.

Between the 2017 and 2022 classes, the following signed 5 star LB recruits:

Georgia x4
Oregon x2
Clemson x2
Maryland
PSU
LSU
Auburn
USC (now at Ohio State, funny enough)

As good as their depth is and it's better than anyone's ever been at any point , they still needed a guy who wouldn't start at OSU to field a 2nd Bama caliber wr.

If the only metric for recruiting success is no local 5 stars you're going to end up with mostly schools that supposedly have recruiting weaknesses.

Look at OSU and CB. How many non local 5 stars have they signed lately? Okudah and Johnson ? With one that panned out (which is why you want five stars so that you only fail half the time. The rest of the first rounders were not, despite many of them being blue chip recruits.

OSU has issues at LB, because they haven't developed anyone in awhile. Sure it's nice to sign 5-stars (though OSU rarely develops them to fruition), but they aren't developing the Schlegels Lees or Werners either.
