Defensive analyst Joe Bolden also moving on.
He was a Coombs guy. Both from Cincy
Joe never played for Kerry at Colerain. pretty much 100% that Bolden was brought on as a QC coach from Washington State (Grad assistant) by Mattison.
Tom Bolden is Joe's uncle. and I stand corrected. I found the article out of Detroit in Spike's thread and it does state that it was Kerry who brought him in as a QC.But didn't his dad coach under Coombs and inherit the Colerain program from Coombs? I thought that was their connection as well. But can also see him coming here because of Mattison
I am kind of the opinion that Washington needs to be replaced. Recruiting and development have been a issue in the LB department.
Kind of like, “Come on kids, we’re going to Disneyland.” Vs “Come on kids, we’re going to see the three headed goat at the county fair.”Grinch was already successful leading a Pac-12 defense. Now, building a defense at USC vs WSU is a different animal but he’s been successful in that league.
I can't remember a time when OSU was more bare boned at LB. We are converting TE's and getting transfer portal running backs to play LB. It's really ridiculous.I think I disagree with the development thing being an issue.
Each year he's been at OSU, the LBs improved over the course of each season.

I would like to agree with you. I just don't see the elite you are referring to. This program used to be linebacker U.Injuries and transfers are to blame for the depth. There’s enough talent in the LB room to field a good-to-great unit. Maybe even elite.
Once there is a cohesive scheme, I think LB play greatly improves. There were no LB issues the last time we had a good DC.
