Defensive Staff Next Year?

Day wanted single high because it helps stop the run (one more safety down in the box). The Oregon game was frustrating because the Buckeyes were in single high almost exclusively yet still couldn't stop the run. 2020's defense seemed good at stopping the run; the issue in 2020 was explosive pass plays in pass coverage (Dotson, Fryfogle, Devonta Smith, etc). Corner play does look better in 2021. The issue in 2021 is the defense couldn't stop the run against good running teams (Minnesota, Oregon, & TTUN), single high or not.

Yeah I don't like that don't dictate. I think that was part of the issue with Coimbs he was a 1st time DC that was told to learn hafley's system. Freeman runs single high as well if we go there.

I'd love for us to go Freeman and Raymond. then Figure out what else we need from there
I think Freeman is leaning towards HC sooner than later. He is almost being groomed for ND, per statements from Brian Kelly.

Brian Kelly all but outright said he's the head coach in waiting.

If Mark Stoops ends up at Oklahoma, I can see Freeman taking the Kentucky job. Already knows the recruiting area incredibly well, high ceiling. It's the exact kind of buy low thing Kentucky does.

I tend to agree on Freeman. There is only one potential scenario where I can see him back in Columbus as DC, and that would be if Ryan Day leaves, opening the door for Luke Fickell to come back as HC. In that event, I could MAYBE see Freeman take the DC job.

Mike Macdonald.

Strengthen self and weaken rival at the same time to double effect. Not like Coach Day hasn’t done something similar in the past.

While we are at it, get Sherrone Moore (who replaced Warinner (lol) for TTUN) to replace Greg Studrawa.

Nothing better to show DFBIA they are second class than making TTUN our farm system for assistants. Anybody they hire that is good enough to beat us will eventually be promoted to work for us. They can keep the Don Browns and Ed Warinners of the world UTQTFS.

TTUN already helps us identify diamond in the rough 3 star recruits. Why not make them do the same for assistants?

I'm now of the opinion that Freeman will be the DC under Fickell at ND.
I didn't realize how close they are. Fickell is godfather to one of Freeman's kids.
The PSU DC just took the Va. Tech job.
I suppose Freeman could take the UC job but his path to a tier 1 HC gig mught be better suited as DC at ND.

For the people who have brought up Derrick Mason at Auburn, what's the difference in his resume from Chris Ash? Both failed HCs at lower tier schools in major conferences, but excelled as coordinators.

Also why so much hate for DJ Durkin if he can get the job done? OSU hired a coach who mistreated injured players while IU, what is the difference?
