Decanonized Mythologized Disgraced Ped State Monster Coach Joe Paterno (Zombie Icon)

Bill Lucas;2031928; said:
No. This morning Paternoster said he'd retire at the end of the season and the board of trustees didn't need to dwell on his situation.

Tonight the board of trustees decided they did need to discuss his situation.
Joe's trying to manipulate the situation through the media by announcing not only his retirement but also that the board "didn't need to spend one minute" discussing his situation was his final sin.

Can somebody link "Don't Take Me Alive" by Steely Dan?

The nerve of the guy, to try to channel the sympathy for the victims for his own purpose and then try to tell the world when HE wants to retire.

Quite literally, he can stick it up his a$$

If he ever does a PC it will be with three reporters from the Student Newspaper..he'll be back pedaling or refusing to answer the tough questions?

If he did, if he was truly about honor and integrity, he'd fall on his sword and admit exactly what he knew, and why he didn't come forward and do something much....much sooner.

But....any old fart that has the ballsac to say, "I'm retiring at the end of the season," ain't gonna admit he did anything wrong.

Here is a good timeline of events. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/11/09/penn-state-scandal-timeline-jerry-sandusky_n_1084204.html

Here is the grand jury report. http://cbschicago.files.wordpress.com/2011/11/sandusky-grand-jury-presentment.pdf

Sandusky was investigated in 1989 for showering with an 11 year old boy. In 1999 Sandusky "retires". Do you think the Paterno did not know about the investigation. If he did, then Paterno knew Sandusky had issues with young boys.

http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/footba...paterno_statement_raises_more_questions110611

So Paterno knows that Sandusky was investigated before for "inappropriate" activity. McQueary tells him what happened in the shower. Did McQueary told him everything in detail. The grand jury report says McQueary "reported what he had seen" to Paterno. Later the grand jury found McQueary's testimony to be "extremely credible". Paterno said Who do you believe?

Wow. I support the firing.

When "suffer the little children" changes to "let the little children suffer - I want the old guy to stay" - you might want to give back one of your "Js" - just sayin'

Am I missing something here? Not standing up for the guy, just wondering where we all got the notion that he knew about this? Link?
From the court documents, it sounds like Mcquery never told JoePa what happened, only that he saw something very disturbing. Joe reported that. The administration's responsibility was to investigate and they did. They had all of the facts. They swept it under the rug. Not Joe Pa. They deserve everything coming towards them.

First off, you need to read the grand jury report that has been linked on this site a few times the last couple days. McQueary's testimony is there to see in black and white, so yes, you are missing something.

Secondly, I'm tired of hearing how Joe Pa doing the bare minimum validates him. Joe Pa was not some rookie coach with no credibility. He's a god in Happy Valley. If he takes the issue seriously and calls the police, there is an immediate investigation and Sandusky's pedophile days are over. He's Joe fucking Paterno - he could've moved mountains there. Instead, he pretty much blows it off.

I have no sympathy for the old man, whatsoever. My sympathy lies with the kids who got abused, particularly those who could've been prevented over the last 9 years had he stood up and took action. Instead, he appeared more concerned with protecting an old friend who happened to be a pedophile.

did you read the post, 2 above yours, where he retracted and said he supported the firing?

Mixed feelings --- to a slight degree

I didn't want Joe to go out like this
but my Penn State friends sure didn't back off the razzing with Tressel
and I highly suspect they relished in it

We got our ass beat over selling our own goods to pay for tats
Plus getting over paid to wash some trucks

This is monumentally more detrimental and so much worse
Yet they have put down the gauntlet that they will not accept getting their chops busted over Paterno

Well, the flood gates have just STARTED to open my Nittany Lion friends..

And anyone not buying in that Joe knew... you need to read the official legal documents that are out on the web... All of PSU knew... and knew for years.. watch what is coming out.. Second Mile has published a letter asking anyone that knows anything to contact the police... tip of the iceberg

So many thoughts and emotions going on inside me right now...

The duplicity that has been revealed in this scenario is truly shocking. How a man, who on one hand has done many acts of charity, can on the other hand allow and thus participate in such atrocious acts is absolutely mind boggling.

The old Proverb "pride goes before destruction" is clearly reflected here. Joe Pa's pride blinded him of the blatant acts of molestation against innocent children. How anyone can defend this man is beyond me because in doing so they are putting a game (when all is said and done that is all football is) above the lives of innocent children. This is not sad, it is pathetic, disgusting and disgraceful. Where is the shame?

I don't usually talk about my personal life on this forum but I think this warrants comment. Not too long ago I owned and operated a Supervised Visitation agency working with Family Law courts, Family Law attorney's and parents, and my number one role was to make sure children were protected and in a safe environment when visiting a parent who was working through personal and legal issues and were estranged to their children due to domestic violence/abuse, substance abuse, abandonment, mental health issues, and, yes, sexual abuse. Not all were guilty of what they were charged with, but most were and they knew it.

When those in authority and trusted positions (parents, teachers, clergy, coaches, etc.) fail to protect the innocent and fail to protect children, it is the greatest violation of trust that can exist. And when part of our society places a game over a life it shows how far we have fallen from what is right, good and decent.

None of us is without fault and this should cause us all to reflect upon issues of integrity and especially the sanctity of a life.

But this one is a no brainer. Why it took over a decade to deal with this is a black mark on PSU that will never go away. Nor should it.

For all those saying that Joe didn't do anything wrong (not that there are any here), if he didn't know and didn't do anything wrong, why did he decide to retire at the end of the season? Why did he say he "wishes he had done more"?

Regardless of how much detail McQueary gave him, he knew something had happened and he was admitting as much by announcing his retirement and "wishing he had done more."

That admission is grounds for sending him packing with no debate.

That anyone would argue that he knew, but had no responsibility beyond telling his boss, and therefore did no wrong, is absurd.
