DE Zach Harrison (All B1G, Atlanta Falcons)

ZACH HARRISON HAS “NO PROBLEM” PLAYING MORE DEFENSIVE TACKLE AFTER CREATING TWO TURNOVERS ON THE INSIDE AGAINST RUTGERS: “IT’S GREAT FOR OUR DEFENSE”

The pair of turnovers Ohio State forced against Rutgers had a couple things in common.

Both were created by senior defensive end Zach Harrison, and both came with the veteran edge rusher playing inside at defensive tackle as part of the Buckeyes’ rushmen package.

During a season in which Harrison has yet to be credited with an official sack or tackle for loss, those two plays represented his best performance of the year. And given the surplus of talent at defensive end, with both Jack Sawyer and J.T. Tuimoloau pushing Harrison for reps on the outside, it’s only natural to wonder if he’ll see more reps on the interior of the Buckeye defense moving forward.

His versatility, and ability to be good at multiple positions, and not great at one. Makes me think his ceiling is more Jalyn Holmes than Chase Young.

Not many Chase Youngs out there, but I'll take a Jalyn Holmes season from Harrison. I agree with the comparison wholeheartedly, just time to bring the meteoric expectations down to earth. Zach has had a good season and is important to our defense. That is kind of the ceiling I think, though we might see a few big performances because of his athletic talent. Nothing wrong with that at all.

I wonder if moving Harrison to DT on passing downs is a partial answer to Knowle's plan to fix containment of mobile quarterbacks? I recall that he said that the defense did not execute well enough against Toledo's Finn. And recently, Jack Sawyer lamented the number of sacks the buckeyes missed against ND and Toledo.

I can see that. Harrison has always had versatility possibilities, but never seemed to have the aggression, or motor to finish plays.
