DE Vernon Gholston (Official Thread)

MililaniBuckeye;1000319; said:
I simply cannot see any other DE getting picked before him in the NFL draft. He simply annihilated a good Michigan OL all day long. I hate to say it, but we just saw Big Vern play his last regular season game...

A) Steve Schilling is a putrid excuse for a RT
B) Calais Campbell will likely be picked ahead of Gholston. Not saying it should/shouldn't happen, but the odds are Campbell gets picked ahead of Gholston. It depends on who has the pick. Gholston may be picked by a 3-4 team to play OLB, much like LaMarr Woodley was. Campbell is a better fit for a 4-3 than a 3-4.

You know.. if you folks would shut up and stop posting about him...
no one in the USA would know anything about him...
and he'd play with us next year...
so keep it a secret

Let me just pretend for a moment that I missed the sarcasm in your post:

If only NFL scouts were so lazy...

But alas, NFL teams will know exactly how good Vern is whether we say anything or not.

I can see that. Though, with his brute strength, it would be hard to not have him beating up on a lineman every down.

But he does have the athleticism to play the OLB/DE hybrid position.

New England Patriots???

Cam: C'mon Vern! I wanted that one!

The problem with tackling Mallet is avoiding the pigeon poop.

From the look on Henne's face, this one hurt as bad as it looked.

Vern should get some kind of humanitarian award for that play, because he could have killed Henne if he'd wanted to.

As I watched the Virginia game, it occurred to me that it would be great if kids considering OSU were there. It is instructive to note what the criteria and conditions are for the retiring of numbers at different schools. The criteria and conditions (including the amount of time that must pass before the honor is conferred) say a great deal about how the school sees themselves.

While it is easier to strike a high profile at mid-level BCS school (sorry HtM, that's how I see the Hoos); it is much easier to think of yourself as being a part of something bigger than yourself at a place like tOSU.
