I loved Vernon in college... but until he figures out that a bull rush will not work in the NFL he's in a steep uphill climb.. he does not use his hands... he does not attempt moves/spins/different techniques.. he's one dimensional...

But the play in which he bull rushed the lineman on his way to crush Henne is a classic and all-time college highlight

They're pretty thin at DE, so if he shows an ounce of ability he should see the field. Unfortunately, based on his NFL career so far, I think this is just an emergency move to have warm bodies to fill the roster. :(

Interesting that he and Chris Long could end up on the same defensive line.


If he has his hand down and gets to attack, he can be effective. If he has to read and react, he's not. Pretty simple.

I generally agree. I thought he would of taken advantage of his opportunity in Chicago though. Lovie Smith gave him a shot and didn't think he was physical enough.

Kid was so good at OSU and just dominated...it's odd he hasn't been able to at least be a third down specialist off the edge in the NFL. I still have memories of him abusing Jake Long.
