Keep in mind that this is a 6'5", 265lb kid who was originally committed to play lacrosse at ND. His quickness, speed, and athleticism are beyond question and are freakish for his size. Precisely why I say that the drop off between Bose and him against VT is not going to be near what everyone thinks...
Hubbard is the Harman Kardon to Bosa's Bose.Keep in mind that this is a 6'5", 265lb kid who was originally committed to play lacrosse at ND. I'm sure once the pads are on he'll look plenty big for a DE. Maybe won't be able to drop inside like a Bosa, but there really aren't many freaks like Bosa in the world. Also can't forget that he's 6'6" and probably weighs way more than you think both due to height and body fat %.A legitimate question (not concern): Does he need to put on several more pounds? To the untrained eye, he looks a little thin to be playing BIG time football at DE. Dwight Freeney comes to mind as a DE on the "lanky" side and he still looks pretty damn big. Obviously Hubbard is a big due and I would merely shake his hand if he ever slapped my girl's ass.
The official site has him listed at 265. Not calling you out, but do you think he's actually lighter? He's carrying plenty of good weight at 6'6...I would say at least 250 (closer to 260 imo). Still plenty of more room on that frame but I can already see a night and day difference from when he came in around 215ish. And with his athleticism and added strength, he is plenty big enough. Plus I would think that at least for this year, they will flip Bosa to the strong side of formations more often than not so if there are any deficiencies in the run defense with Hubbard for some reason, we will compensate just fine.

I hope you didn't think I was comparing him to Clowney fromba production standpoint. I was just pointing out similar body types. My expectations of a new starter at a new position at a higher level are quite low. I'm just happy if he's in a healthy rotation and learns from game reps and gets better as the season progressesI'm looking for good things from Hubbard, too, but the comparisons to Bosa and Clowney are setting some folks up for severe disappointment IMO.
Sam doesn't need to be as dominant as either Bosa or Clowney in order to be a very good player indeed. It's unrealistic to expect that kind of production from him.
It's not a matter of what you said; it's a matter of how an optimistic Buckeye fan might read what you said.I hope you didn't think I was comparing him to Clowney fromba production standpoint.
