DE Sam Hubbard (All B1G, National Champion, Cincinnati Bengals)

http://ohiostate.scout.com/2/1358331.html

Clifton Garrett was the Midwest's lone five-star going into this week, but Scout added two more linebackers to the list today in Cincinnati (Ohio) Moeller's Sam Hubbard and Crete-Monee (Ill.) product Nyles Morgan.

Hubbard, an Ohio State commit, impressed throughout his senior season culminating in a big playoff run. Both Ohio analysts Dave Berk and Bill Greene had a chance to see him and believe he is one of the best in the state.

"I think he's number one in the state," Berk said. "He's a great athlete. He has a tremendous wing span. I think Ohio State has something special there with him. He's so athletic that he could even play tight end and be a big time player there."

Not only did Hubbard come up with his best when his team needed it most, but he consistently played outstanding competition. Combine that with his size and physical tools and we feel he has an extremely bright future.

Kids film is pretty remarkable from this season and I still think his upside is through the roof. As he becomes a more complete player and gets his technique down pat (especially squaring up at impact for the tackle), I think he can be a star here. If he adds 10-20 lbs. and doesn't lose any of that athleticism, I really do think he could play the Star here...you would think SAM with his size but I honestly see Dante at SAM, McMillan at MIKE, and Berger/Hubbard at WILL. Unless Hubbard gets enormous, I do not see him ending up on the DL. I believe he is one of the rare guys at that height that will not put his hand in the dirt at the next level. Really excited to see him progress, his skills can be utilized in many ways.

Some parallels with Shazier and Rolle... though he's a lot taller than Brian and probably won't be a MLB.
Still flies to the ball and gets in on everything.
If Shazier leaves, having him and Johnson around makes me feel a lot better. Should be plenty of great competition for LB spots in the coming years.

Shawn Crable from Massillon, was a recruiting battle JT lost to Carr.
He was listed at 6'6" and started at OLB for TSUN.
I will remember him fondly for his momentum changing late hit penalty on Troy Smith in 2006.

Can't think of the last OLB that was 6'6......when you think of big for the position in college, it's a guy like Anthony Barr whose 6'4. This link doesn't even show a kid entering the draft at OLB that's above 6'4, quite a physical specimen.

I remember back in the day Ted Hendricks playing in the NFL. I believe his nickname was "The Stork" and he was around 6'6" IIRC. Great player but Hubbard is faster and more mobile. Looking forward to how his career progresses.

Uh, currently on our roster is 6'4 Mike Mitchell...

Keith McCants from Ala. many years back at 6'5"; no 1 pick of nfl draft, Lavarr Arrington at 6'5"; no.1 pick of the draft. Osu's Craig Powell a first rounder to the Browns at 6'5". And as I hinted to above, OSU's Eric Kumerow a first rounder to the Dolphins at 6'6". I don't doubt that there are many others. If Sam is the extraordinary athlete that many feel that he is, there is precedent that he can have success at the next level.

LBs that urban and staff have brought in so far:
Mike Mitchell
Trey Johnson
cam Williams
Darron lee
Sam Hubbard
Dante booker
Raekwon McMillan
Kyle Berger
Joe burger(he's a walk on, but a valuable and talented player)

Upgrades should be seen soon. And out of this bunch, Sam sticks out so much due to his athleticism and size(as does Mitchell). The recruiting should pay dividends pretty soon
