DE Mike Vrabel (All B1G, All American, Pro Bowl, All Pro, Super Bowl Champion)

I have a hard time being upset about this. It's a great opportunity and it's thoroughly deserved. I think we're looking at Coach Meyer's eventual successor if he wants it, and that excites me about the long-term future more than his departure makes me anxious about the short-term future. He is on the fast track and he's gonna have an excellent coaching resume before long.

Gawd.

Don't get me too excited. Vrabel leading the Buckeyes in 5-6 years?? Yes. Yes. Yes.

He'd be a decent bridge to Kenny G.

Good luck coach Vrable. You did a great job with the Bucks. Hate to see you go, but well deserved.

His replacement will be Matt Finkes from what I hear. If this is the case, then Fickle has more power than many here might think. He keeps bringing in his posse. Interesting to see how this all plays out.

A lot out of you are missing the obvious why Mike was probably hired at Houston. Romeo Crennel is the DC at Houston and I am pretty sure that he was the DC in New England when Mike played there.

The strange part of this is he is going to be the LB coach at Houston. I do not understand why he was not the LB coach at Ohio State and why Luke was not the DL coach.

Meyer really need to hit a home run because Mike's departure is really going to hurt recruiting unless the home run is hit.

IIRC, Vrabel's first season here was as LB Coach b/c Fickell was the head coach. Since neither of the two was really entrenched with a position group when Meyer got here, it seems he decided where to put each based on where he preferred them. I think Vrabel's background as a 3-4 LB made him better suited to coach DL (and DEs in particular) at Ohio State. Since Crennel runs a 3-4, coaching LBs for that team is the more natural fit for him.

The one last image I had of the CCG and probably one of my last images of Mike at Ohio State was seeing him hug and console Joey Bosa after the game was over. it is strange because I never saw that type of emotion out of LF any time during the season.

My guess is that the NFL is where he really wants to be (and there is nothing wrong with that). And if so, it is good career move for him. Regardless, I wish him the best.

Re: Romeo Crennel to be Texans' DC
One day after Crennel met with O'Brien, the Texans hired former Patriots linebacker Mike Vrabel to be their linebackers coach. Vrabel played under Crennel.

Do you see a trend hers? The Texans are hiring a lot of exPatriots.
