DC Matt Patricia (Official Thread)

A couple thoughts that echo my sentiment per posters from 11w:
After watching that video you can see why Day hired him. MP's experience and knowledge about how to align your teams strengths to the chosen scheme are deep and detailed. He's basically seen it all and has lots of options to pull from his mental database. He knows how to adjust to his talent and to the opponent. He doesn't have a pre-determined philosophy or favored scheme he is looking to fit the team in to.
I really think this is the situation. Its like Chip. Day knew Chip wasn't going to be around long and was likely a one year rental so he already had the plan in place to give Hartline the job after a year learning under him. I think Patricia is only going to be at OSU for a year to rebuild his image like how former coaches did at Bama under Saban and then we move to Walton and MG being Co-DCs with MG calling plays. Day probably wanted to give MG one more season of seasoning in an elevated role before he felt comfortable giving him the duties."

I posted this in another tread. I truly believe Patricia is being brought as a rental until we have a Walton and MG Co-DCs in 26 and he can rehab his image and get another NFL job. There are only certain coaches you are going to be able to bring in for this kinda situation and Patricia was one.

You know this comes from a point of utmost respect for you over many years on BP - but on this specific hire. A hard no for me.

Being a name in the NFL at a point in time is not a determining factor to me. It helps, but I really don't see another check box that can be checked. His scheme is nothing like Knowles, no history in CFB or recruiting acumen, and no connection to Ohio. He wore a hoodie like everyone else in NE, that's about it.

Not directed at you at all, but I think this is a bad move.
Respect goes both ways, brother. Much appreciated.
I'm an optimist, by nature. I try to see and believe the best about people, until they prove otherwise. I've also been a public figure most of my adult life and some people say and believe things about me that simply aren't true. Some things are just flat out lies. It goes with the territory.
Day has had a couple misses over the years. And this could be another one. But he's also made some homerun hires. Day has chosen to believe in MP and so that gives me reason to to do the same.

Same here, we've been in this together for awhile and always want the good guys to prevail.

It's tough to be in the spotlight at OSU. Day is the freaking man in that category. As was Tress and Urban. Point is those guys handled their business.

To get my point back on topic, Patricia better recruit and be a great defensive coach. I do not like this hire and that's the nicest way I can say it. If he can give us 1 year and high tail it to the NFL, I'm cool with that. But give us 1 good year. If he does that, shake hands and send signals to the skies.
