“I was a little disappointed that (new Ohio State defensive coordinator) coach (Jim) Knowles didn’t touch base with us,” Dan said. “But now I understand completely. The question about coach (Kerry) Coombs was going to come up and he wouldn’t be able to answer it. But now we know coach Perry Eliano and coach (Tim) Walton are taking coach Coombs’ place. I talked to both of them (Saturday). Coach Eliano texted me late Friday night and I called him on Saturday. Coach Walton texted on Saturday and I talked to him Saturday evening.

“It was good. Neither one of them had to sell me on Ohio State. And neither one had to sell me on themselves. I had already done my homework on them.”

So what now with the new Ohio State defensive back coaches and Harris?

“I told them now they have to foster a relationship with AJ,” Dan said. “I think they might both be at AJ’s school later this week.”

Harris dropped his list of his final seven schools in mid-September. His list is made up of Ohio State, LSU, Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, North Carolina and Notre Dame.

“He’ll probably decide before the summer,” Dan said. “He can take his official visits in April. Ohio State is definitely in it. I think it will be at least a couple months till he decides.”

What is this based on? That's a pretty bad take.
His main recruiter at OSU just was let go and is now with another school. And he probably doesn't even know who his new position is, as none of us do. All we/he know is that OSU hired 2 coaches for the secondary. His coordinator is also new to his position and has a bunch of kids to recruit and learn in 2023, keep the kids in 2022 committed, and also learn about the strengths and weaknesses of his current roster. I'm sure reaching out to the Harris family was a priority, but where does it fall on that list? I'm sure the OSU defensive puts Harris as a major priority, but as many know, Coombs was handling this recruitment and he's no longer on the OSU staff. So this recruitment will go a little longer while Knowles and staff gets their ducks in a row. Claiming every single kid who doesn't commit when you feel he should, doesn't indicate that he's solely looking for the pay check

Mainly based on his father going to social media to complain about being disrespected in the middle of a complete defensive coaching revamp. That seems like the type of family that is looking for handouts. But then again, if he actually considering following Coombs to UC (and not just pretending so as a middle finger to OSU) that would suggest otherwise.
