DB Antonio "Yao" Smith (official thread)

Fortunately Florida's run offense isnt one we are generally worried about. As long as he can run basically pain free, then he should be able to play and cover in pass defense. Yes he will eventually have to make a tackle but I would figure that its better tackling those WR's than a bruising tailback or fullback on a sweep, with shoulder injury. I would bet unless he does have surgery that he will be in this game.

CB Smith rises from walk-on status

"From day one, he was never looked at as a walk-on because of his work ethic," defensive coordinator Jim Heacock said Thursday of Antonio Smith. "He's a very, very intelligent young man. He knew the defense backwards and forward, he studies film. If there is any lack of ability he would have, he could make us for it being in the right spot, knowing what to do."

Smith reaps hard work's rewards
By Kelly Whiteside, USA TODAY

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. ? This doesn't happen every day. Or really ever.

Antonio Smith, a kid from Columbus, a pretty good high school player but not very big, finds that no one is too interested in offering him a football scholarship. Some Mid-American Conference schools want him to walk-on. But Smith instead receives an academic scholarship from Ohio State. He likes its engineering program and joins his hometown team as a walk-on.
