Last night was a pretty good experience. Antonio Smith came to speak at our annual Football Banquet. He spoke about the importance of doing your school work, and to always keep fighting in life no matter what someone says you can't or won't do. He also stressed the importance of staying away from drugs and crime.

He also awarded the annual "Antonio Smith Academic Excellence Award". Awarded to the highest ranking (Grade point average) senior player in the senior class. He is the guy that made the award possible.

As a senior at Beechcroft he won a $1,000 scholarship. Since he already had a full ride academic scholarship, he couldn't accept it. So he "Payed Forward" and donated the money to the school. That is what made the award possible and why the award was named after him.

It was a great experience to meet him in person. Got a couple autographs from him. Some people never realized how short he actually is.

OHIO STATE FOOTBALL INSIDER

Buckeyes senior cornerback is hoping to fling his sling

Friday, December 22, 2006

Columbus- If there was one thing that didn't look right Tuesday night when Ohio State's football team was honored at halftime of the men's basketball game, it was that all-Big Ten player with his left arm in a sling.
Senior cornerback Antonio Smith has been the only major casualty of bowl practice, OSU coach Jim Tressel said Thursday, and though Tressel expects Smith to be ready for the Jan. 8 national title game, it doesn't sound like a sure thing at this point.

Ohio State's Antonio Smith might have shoulder injury
Friday, December 22, 2006

Ohio State senior cornerback Antonio Smith had his left arm in a sling yesterday.
Coach Jim Tressel said he could not be specific about the injury but said, "You know what slings usually do." They usually signify a shoulder problem. Tressel said Smith?s status will be evaluated once the team arrives in Phoenix on Dec. 30. The Buckeyes wrap up two weeks of practice Saturday morning, then break for Christmas.

Sorry I couldn't post any sooner. I found out about the Smith injury on Wed... They've known about it for a while (he just played through it), the doc's thought it wasn't too serious, he had it checked and results came back Wed. It is my understanding he will not practice for a while. He is questionable for the game.

I forget if it is a slight tear of some type of tendon or if it is a slight hairline fracture of a bone (I frankly wasn't paying close attention when the subject came up).

To my knowledge this isn't "new" it sounded like this has been an ongoing injury for at least a few weeks (might have had it durning the scUM game as well... or maybe even longer).

That's all I know...

I think he will play as well... The concern I have is in run support (if it is a hairline break/small tear)...

With the amount of time off, and the type of game (NC), if I were a betting man I'd go with him playing...
