Lay off Michael Keaton. He didn't play the character in that fashion. He was more tortured hero with pain of parent's death in Movie 1, and just cool-and-doesn't-talk-much Batman in Movie 2 (His Bruce Wayne role was more prominent in that one). In fact, George Clooney has said in an interview that if one of the old actors who portrayed Batman would be offered a role to play an older Batman, the movie would be better off with Keaton.

Well mind you, Keaton did a MUCH better job than Kilmer or Clooney, but it still didnt have the right feel to it. The first 2 movies were not bad, just patterned more after the tv show than the comics. Wasnt really knocking Keaton, just kinda sounded that way.

The villians in all the Batman movies were the best rols. Jack Nickolson as Joker. Danny DeVito as Penguin. Now, Ledger as Joker. Remember Frank Gorshen as Riddler in the old tv series? Ceaser Romero as Joker. And Julie Newmar as Cat Woman. Fun roles.

You don't need to go to the movies, I'm sure that OCBucksFan can "make you smile for weeks afterwards"?

Saw it last night at midnight, and I loved it. I'd be willing to put everything I have on Ledger winning a major award for this movie. He did a fantastic job. But I was thinking about this, they left it open at the end for another one. Who would the villain be? (Obviously it has to be someone who is "evil" enough that can do just as good of a job as Ledger and The Joker)

Why so serious?

I think that is why I liked Batman Begins so much more than plenty of the other old roles. Bruce Wayne's character actually got development. And, it proved to me that he could carry a movie without a larger than life villain beside him. Granted, it was not as successful, but it wasn't really well marketed either. When I don't see the movie for 2 weeks after it's released because I don't know it's out, something is wrong.

By the way, The Dark Knight beat Spider-Man 3's single day gross record. It also beat Star Wars Episode III's midnight showing record.

I do consider myself a pretty harsh critic of movies, but I was completely blown away by "The Dark Knight", and especially Heath Ledger as the Joker. This has to be the best "super-hero" movie ever made IMO.....and the direction of Christopher Nolan was outstanding. The whole movie was very dark, gloomy and moody as I was kept riveted to my seat for the entire 2 1/2 hours. You cannot underestimate the roles of Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman in this movie either, as Heath Ledger and Christian Bale seemd to have run away with most of the accolades. The only thing that I was 50-50 about was the casting of Maggie Gyllenhaal and Aaron Eckhart for their respective roles.

Overall I would give this movie a 9 out of 10.

Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent played well. The transition into Two-Face? Eh, not so well. I don't think it was Eckhart's fault. He's an awesome actor and did what he could with it. The writing just sucked IMO.

Ledger lived up to the billing. I think there's a lot of hyperbole going around about his performance. It truly was a dark, creepy, and surprisingly witty performance. Possibly even Oscar-worthy. But I think I was only blown away because I didn't think Ledgar had it in him.

The movie as a whole was awesome until about the last 20 minutes or so. The Two-Face plot just left me kind of, I don't know, blah and unsatisfied.

i couldn't resist NOT going to see it thursday night/friday morning at midnight..i kinda always thought heath was a hell of an actor, but this by far was the best acting performance from him. Heath was one hell of a joker and it makes his death sting a bit more.

Sorry I don't have time to read the other posts in this thread - but does this "Dark Knight" tell the TRUE story? Is it better than "Season on the Brink"?

(Brian Dennehy is sooo much better than Michael Keaton.)

Yes, this is one of the best super-hero movies ever made. That being said, I don't think anything in it deserves to go down in cinematic history as best of all time. This batman series was billed as trying to be a less far-fetched, with batman being very human, but some of the stunts and things he does go off the deep end. It's nothing so bad to ruin the movie, but it's out there.

I did think it started to drag just a little bit at certain points, too. Never to the point when I begun to wonder if it would ever end, but I felt myself getting a bit antsy.

It's an amazing cast and a very, very good director. Anything but a putrid script and they could have churned out something watchable but it's pretty brilliant. Heath Ledger carries the movie and certainly steals the show from Bale's Batman. This is a pretty good legacy to leave behind for Ledger.

That's one that gets overlooked. I really liked him in that role.

Dark Knight sets new record for biggest opening day EVER!

It's official, The Dark Knight has set a new record for the biggest opening day ever (and biggest single day ever)! The film pulled in an unbelievable $66 million on Friday, easily beating the old record of $59.8 million set by Spider-Man 3. The Dark Knight already set a new record for midnight showings, bringing in $18.4 million from midnight shows alone, surpassing the $16.9 million that Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith brought in at midnight on its opening day.

It seems that The Dark Knight is now projected to pull in $157 million over the weekend. If that holds, it will set a new record for biggest opening weekend ever. The current record is $151.1 million set by Spider-Man 3.

'Dark Knight' now projected to break 'Spiderman 3' record for biggest opening weekend ever. :yow1:
