Cotton Bowl: Ole Miss 47, Texas Tech 34 (Final)

Keep in mind that OU's victory over this gimmicky team was deemed so materially significant that voters not only propelled the Sooners into the title game over the 'Horns despite their loss to UT on a neutral field, they also awarded Bradford the heisman trophy over McCoy, who had much less to work with but nonetheless compile similar numbers. I think it's a travesty.

Yes... well, it's no secret the national media can't get enough offense. Lack of defense really doesn't concern them... nope... points points points....

Drives me nuts.

Speaking of a moment when a power running game could have helped - you just saw it.

Instead pass attempt on 1st down gives up the 2-point insult.

That was a great offensive play call. Put your QB under Center and call a play action pass where your QB has to "turn" his back on the defense. A defense I might add that will be bringing the "heat"...... Incredible....

Well, let's see....

Players lined up in a manner inconsistent with virtually every other team on the planet? Check (O-Line gaps)
One player makes or breaks the team's chances? Check (See QB)
Lopsided talent towards gimmick and not other areas? Check (See O production v. lack of defense)
Small school who "can't compete" with instate powerhouse(s)? Check. (See Texas)

Ever see Tech run the power I?

No?

Didn't think so.
I don't consider it a gimmick offense in the slightest. All I see is Mike Leacah doing an excellent job of attempting to get the ball to his playmakers in space, spreading the field with all of the WR's as well as confusing the defense with the different variations in routes. Thats just putting your team in the best position to win, good coaching.

The lopsided talent difference between the O and the D really doesn't factor into it being gimmicky, just means that they don't recruit well on the defensive side of the ball.

I guess you can pretty much label any spread offense or any offense that doesn't run the power I, or any team that doesn't play defense well as a gimmicky offense under those terms.

How many Tech QB's are getting it done in the NFL? What's that? None? Like I said... Gimmick.

I don't disagree about it "working" and being "good coaching" but, that's not evidence it's a gimmick. How does a team with a talent gap compete? Gimmick, that's how.

No... the triple option is a gimmick too....

Pretty much works like this - Does it work in the NFL? Yes? Not a gimmick. No? Gimmick.
