Coronavirus (COVID-19) is too exciting for adults to discuss (CLOSED)

Giving the old folks their own grocery store time is nice and all, but won't literally everything they touch have already been touched by a demographic of people that are more likely to be infected, yet asymptomatic?

I guess they won't get directly coughed on by the young and infected. But overall it does seem a lot more like taking shoes off at the airport than anything that's actually likely to be useful.

I just saw Senator Bill Cassidy (representing Louisiana, born in Illinois), who's a medical doctor, interviewed on TV. He said that he reads the latest medical journals every night. He said that conservative estimates have about 500,000 US residents dying from COVID-19.

I don't think he's an idiot. But it's difficult for me to understand why 500,000 is a low-end estimate for deaths in the US, when China has at this point checked the spread of the virus in that country and they have a little over 3,000 deaths. And they have about 4.5 times the population of the US.

Edit- Jake said about the same thing last night.

29 cases per million people in the US so far. Literally nothing. Will that change? Yes, of course. But it’s not killing 500,000 people in the US this year. Maybe worldwide, but again, the flu kills 650,000 per year worldwide.

Get a water filter? Seriously. How many bottles of water do you get for $25? Because you get 1,000 gallons from a typical $25 faucet filter.

On a (lighter?) note, the assholes at 4chan are now calling it The Holocough. I can't even.

Triple osmosis filter was in the plan for the kitchen remodel this summer. I think that's getting pushed back a few months.

Because the testing has been incomplete we really can't trust any statistics. I hope I'm wrong and all of this is just "overkill" as Mili and others have suggested. And this experience will help preparedness for the next outbreak because you know that more are coming. This is our wake up call.

We're still in denial. Beaches in Florida are PACKED with kids on spring break and families acting like this is a three week government mandated vacation.
Yeah, I know. But how long are they going to expect the majority of the population to stay isolated? Just because a smaller portion won't recognize the problem, allowing the virus to slowly spead, waiting for the restrictions to be removed before having another rapid increase.

The numbers are going up now mostly because more testing is finally being done, but I believe the actual spread of the virus has been slowed down by the measures taken in the past week. But a few more weeks of this and the 'cure' will be worse than the disease.

How many deaths are worth doing "literally nothing?" Is the death of your kid worth doing "literally nothing"?

Given how this thing started, the lack of transparency and the attempt to blame the United States if anyone still believes that the Communist government of China is our friend is completely delusional.

Perhaps our corporate overlords in all their Ayn Rand glory should have considered this before we packed up our manufacturing base and handed it to them wrapped in a ribbon.

Not surprising based on what I read last week in regards to it still effecting young people. It doesn't hit them as hard, but it still hits them.

100%. The stress on hospitals and medical supplies would be lessen without the dumbasses shipping everything overseas. This gives a strong push for all countries to handle a larger percentage of their essential goods. If the corporations are too chickenshit to do this, then the government should nationalize the production of certain goods. Would provide better competition too.

Overall I know it might be hard to believe this can be as bad as some are saying, but testing is STILL absurdly limited and some counties in Ohio are just now getting their first cases. People aren't taking it seriously and that is going to have a dire effect for hospitals. Read what's happening in Italy. It's not a seasonal flu situation.

Not sure how long it will take to get back to normal, but I imagine a lot of places will be WFH or rotating people in and out for quite a while. I'll assume that sports will come up with a solution in the next month or so to keep players safe, but we're probably done with attendance at events for the next year.
