First, kids aren't dying from this...it's virtually only the elderly and immunocompromised. Second, how many tens of thousands of businesses and millions of drastically affected lives are worth a couple thousand deaths? As BB73 alluded to above, soon the cure will be worse than the disease. How many deaths are worth doing "literally nothing?" Is the death of your kid worth doing "literally nothing"?
Get a ZeroWater. and fill up a gallon jug or two of pure water a day...thing works great.Triple osmosis filter was in the plan for the kitchen remodel this summer. I think that's getting pushed back a few months.
It's not the businesses per se but the people affected by closures: employees, customers, economy. And whether you believe or not, I'm not on the right, but dead middle.funny how some on the right are suddenly more than happy to institute a death panel when businesses are threatened.
On the right? I’m not sure what that means. MGM, for example, isn’t threatened, their workers are. This holds true across the board. The working class always takes the brunt of any economic downturn.funny how some on the right are suddenly more than happy to institute a death panel when businesses are threatened.
I have no doubt about that. When you are as old as I am you "dribble".
I just saw Senator Bill Cassidy (representing Louisiana, born in Illinois), who's a medical doctor, interviewed on TV. He said that he reads the latest medical journals every night. He said that conservative estimates have about 500,000 US residents dying from COVID-19.
I don't think he's an idiot. But it's difficult for me to understand why 500,000 is a low-end estimate for deaths in the US, when China has at this point checked the spread of the virus in that country and they have a little over 3,000 deaths. And they have about 4.5 times the population of the US.
Edit- Jake said about the same thing last night.

People will point at China's Draconian control measures as why China was able to "contain" the virus. Seeing as we haven't implemented such strict measures (yet), folks toss out (without proof) the high potential mortality figures.China's population density is 145 people per square kilometer compared to the USA's 94 per square mile. China's 6 largest cities have more people than New York City.
A much larger population with a significantly higher density has less than 4,000 deaths in 4+ months but we're going to have at least 500,000. I'd like to see that calculation.
