Blogging the Buckeyes

Quote from Hartline, sounds like teammates may not be too pleased . . .

"In this case, there were a couple guys that got in trouble, and they're not bad guys. But then you're doubting yourself (because) you like this guy, you think he's not a bad guy, but his action speak otherwise.

"And I know the kind of guys they are, and they're great guys. But it just like dumbfounds you, because I hang out with them all the time but I never see it happen, so it's like, `When?'. . .

"If you screw up once, I completely understand _ you're young. But man, once you hit that second or third time, however many there are, there's a point you can't. . . .You've got to find your own path. I'm going to help you out as much as I can, but you want to be treated as an adult, then I'm going to treat you like an adult. I'm not going to hold your hand."

And here I was pissed at Ray for slacking and then having a bad attitude. Now we've got multiple dope violations for a couple dudes. Sheesh.

I was a kid and I made the same mistakes I just didn't have someone testing me. Having said that, the risk/reward situation for these guys is a bit different than me. If I got caught, who gave a fuck other than my folks.... With these guys, there are potential NFL careers at stake. Ouch.

If Gene wasn't a Buckeye...played for....LSU. How would we react?

I think many voices would stay the same; he should be done for at least a year. I think he should be done as a Buckeye. When you have talent like this and you screw up more than once, you obviously need more than a couple games' suspension to send you a message.

It's unfortunate that I have to say this about a Buckeye, but I don't think he should be with the team. I would feel exactly the same if he played for any other school.

(I can't speak for everyone here, but I know I'm speaking for some)

Probably the same way. I don't think there's anybody here that would say Clifford shouldn't be gone for the year at a minimum. I'm of the opinion that he should be shown the door, period. This is 3 inside of a year for him, it's painfully obvious that he just doesn't get it.

We need to take the highest road possible on this or be subjected to years of condemantion and abuse by not only the talking heads but by the whole country.
In order to maintain the standards that should be upheld here we need to demonstrate that the actions by these men will not be tolerated and should be treated as harshly as possible for the good of the team and the University.
We have lost the ability to comment on any other problems of any other programs, now all we can do is show that we will strive to maintain the ideals of the ncaa, the big ten, and tOSU and it's fans.
There are plenty of kids who do not engage in behavior of this type and who would die to play for us and we should give those scholarships to those kids.

I just saw Coach Hazell on the news. He was asked about the guys doing some extra running and apparently being held out of the team practice.

Hazell: "Doing a little extra work today. That is all. That is about it right now. I'll let coach Tress handle that one."

Reporter: "Is there something to handle?"

Hazell: "No. Not really. Hu-uh. Not at all."

Reporter: "Is this the first practice they were out?"

Hazell: "Uh yeah. Uh-hu."

Reporter: "Will that continue for the rest of the spring?"

Hazell: "Uh, I don't know. I don't know that decision."

The rest of the country already condemns and abuses the team and will do so regardless of what happens. But I agree with you. If the facts are as speculated, these individuals should be dealt with fairly, but sternly none-the-less.

Based on what the rest of the country is already spewing from their mouths and keys about us, I could care less about their reception to our course of action on this subject. What I care about is the reception that it gets from the rest of the team and possible recruits so that they know should they get into a similar situation it will not be tolerated at tOSU and they should give it up if they want to play football at a respected program like ours.

I hate the idea of booting a 19 yr old off the squad due to smoking marijuana.. but Clifford and even Washington has really put Tressel in a bad position..

If he doesnt put his foot down and send at least one of them packing (probably Clifford since he came into OSU with a strike) it sets a bad example for the team.. Guys will think they can get away with anything..

I think Clifford has to be given a yr suspension, and probably has done enough to warrant being kicked off the team.. but given his age, im more open to giving him another chance next yr.. I dont know if he'll get his act together, and to be honest he doesnt seem like the type that will.. but i just hate the idea of canning a kid cause of this..

Washington.. he was given a reprieve a few months ago.. to then test positive again a few months later.. is just ridiculous..

I'd suspend him for half the season..

ONeal, i dont think he's ever been in trouble, a game or two suspension would be my call..

But as I said, all these guys put Tress in a bad position.. and whatever punishment he hands out will be warranted, especially in the cases of Clifford and Washington

Three in title were not in uniform, running off in the far endzone, away from the media.

Mo was out there practicing with the team. So much for dotting the i's blog.

If Gene is running laps, at least we know he hasn't been kicked off the team...at least not yet.

I know this has been touched on in this thread already.. but seriously, we've run a very tight ship the last couple of years.. and we've had great success on the field.

Now look at USC, while I'm not saying he is guilty or not, the Reggie Bush story barley was touched by ESPN.. but if JT so much as sneezes it's gonna be all over ESPN..

Look at PSU.. ask neutral fans who runs a 'cleaner' program and I would bet a good number would say PSU..

We can kick all of them off the team, or keep them all, the national response will be the same.

Fuck them all.

scholarships

Kick the 2 time offenders off scholarship, suspend them for a year, and IF they do not have another offense they could earn a starting role as a senior walkon. The should not be taking scholarships from kids who want to play.

I think we would find out really quick if the offenders really wanted to be a part of the team.
