George inks deal with the Crew

Second round draft pick signs with the Black & Gold

The Columbus Crew announced Thursday morning that the club has signed second round draft pick Kevan George. The Trinidad and Tobago native impressed the Crew front office throughout the team's training camp in February and early March.
"I am very delighted that Columbus has chosen to invest in me," the midfielder told TheCrew.com. "I know I have a future with (The Crew). I just want to progress for them."
George's combination of size and foot skill is an asset the Crew front office found intriguing.

Crew signs defender Nemanja Vukovic

Experienced left back from Montenegro impressed during trial

COLUMBUS ? The Columbus Crew announced today that it has signed left back Nemanja Vukovic, who will occupy an international roster slot. Per club and league policy, no further terms of the multi-year deal were disclosed.

Vukovic was impressive on trial over the course of the last two weeks of the Crew?s preseason in Charleston, S.C., and Columbus, during which he appeared in three matches.

?Nemanja is a quality, experienced left-footed player and we are very happy to add him to our roster,? said Crew head coach Robert Warzycha. ?He makes good passes out of the back, hits good crosses and has good timing when joining the attack.?

Columbus tied with Toronto as the second half is just underway. Milovan Mirosevic had an opportunity to put the Crew on the board with a penalty kick, but the goalie for Toronto stuffed the attempt (even though he committed early, and it should have been a re-kick).

Either way, I see Columbus coming out on top in this game. They just seem to be moving the ball around the pitch MUCH better than what Toronto is doing.

Toronto seems really content on running the ball up the right flank and crossing it in every time. As long as the Crew plays smart defense, and keeps every man marked, they won't have a problem with this weak attack.

Columbus gets the W today. 1-0.

Andy G looked GREAT in goal today, making some VERY spectacular saves.

Eric Gerhig may or may not have just solidified his spot in the CB rotation. He looked phenomenal today, despite finding out he was starting at 10 am today.

I'd like to see Milo stay in the attacking midfield, but his feet and knowledge of the game are good enough for him to play really anywhere from the field.

Can't wait to have Dily Duka back. Having him and Anor on the RM and LM spots could be pretty sick in the counter-attack.

Gehrig was man of the match today, IMO. The new guys bring a different, calming dimension to the team. Much easier footy to watch. Duka's return and the continued gelling with the new arrivals has me pretty pumped for this season.

I missed the game today (recovering from a hangover, ha), but saw the goal by Anor. Beautiful goal off of a classic Crew counter attack. Heck of a slide by Milo to start that counter, too. And another shutout for the Hebrew Hammer. As long as he's not letting the ball by him, I think it's his job to lose (and it ought to be like that).

I think we were very fortunate with the schedule to have Montreal and Toronto early on and not the likes of LA and Seattle. From what I've heard about in the preseason, this team is still very much so working out the kinks and learning how to play with each other... getting that chemistry down. For sure, I'll take 6 points in 3 games in a pretty weak Eastern Conference any day of the week.

Once this team reaches it's full chemistry, look out MLS.

Just finished watching the game. Gehrig looked really good back there, but so did the whole back line. I wonder how much of the great play by Gruenebaum and Gehrig was orchestrated by Marshall.

IMO, Anor looked like shit today, and his goal was a product of the same heavy touch and/or being weak with the ball that he had shown up until the moment that the ball hit the back of the net. Heavy touch, lucky deflection, great finish.

Francis is fast. His rocket shot right before half would have been epic.

A healthy Duka is only going to improve Anor's play IMO... If not, he loses his starting spot. Plain and simple. I thought Urso played spectacular today as well.

I didn't see the Montreal game but Urso looked much better than his very shaky MLS debut against Colorado. I only saw one poor clearance today, where, IIRC, Urso was responsible for at least one of Colorado's goals, and had multiple ill-advised back passes and bad turnovers in game one. His service today was very good too.

BTW, Urso's first name is Kirk. :wink2:
