Also, something tells me that if they do announce a switch from ONN to Fox Sports Ohio, they won't have a big press conference like that. An announcement maybe, but not with a live stream and whatnot.

Wouldn't you have it on Fox Sports Ohio?

The Crew just released (very suddenly) they will be carrying a press conference live on thecrew.com at 2pm to make a "major club announcement". No other details given. Very curious as to what this pertains to. Sponsor? DP??

I am trying very hard to figure out what double penetration has to do with the Crew.

Seriously. What does DP mean?

DP = Designated Player. Was brought around in response to the "Beckham rule", allowing teams to sign high priced players, but only count $400,000 towards the team's salary cap. MLS allows 3 DPs per team, though not all teams can afford them obviously, giving NY and LA a huge leg up on the rest of the league. Guillermo Barros Schelotto and Andres Mendoza are past DPs that the Crew have used. We're actively looking for a DP this year and our front office has said they are looking at bringing in a forward to fill the slot.

Hopefully they feel they added serious depth to CDM and RB.

Thank you!

As a reconstituted Columbus guy, I am excited to get into the Crew and the Blue Jackets. I obviously have some catching up to do.

Good article discussing our situation at LB and for our DP. Very interesting stuff regarding the DP...

Flexibility with DP slot

How the search for another left back affects Columbus' roster spots is uncertain.

After adding attacking midfielder/forward Milovan Mirosevic and forward Olman Vargas in January, the Crew attempted to sign another striker as a Designated Player, but technical director Brian Bliss told MLSsoccer.com last week that they were rebuffed by three targets.

As a result, a DP may not be added until the summer transfer window, if at all. The Crew are still considering offering a non-DP contract to Costa Rican forward Jairo Arrieta of Deportivo Saprissa.

Bliss said the club has enough room in the salary cap to sign Arrieta and a Designated Player.

Crewture FINALLY got back up and running after a long hiatus, and they were right on top of the news on Jairo Arrieta more than a month ago. He would be a fantastic signing. At the time, I thought his name being thrown around was more or less wishful thinking, but now that Bliss is confirming our interest in him... that's exciting. I remember when we played Saprissa, he was one of their go-to players. The thought of him and Emilio up top... woo. Check out his youtube films at that crewture link above.

Also confirms what we were thinking at the end of the season... we had a lot of money to throw around when Rodgers, Ekpo, and Mendoza went bye-bye. Looking internationally for a left back, plus potentially taking Arrieta and a DP, all after hitting the international market for a couple of nice pieces?? Nice.

I couldn't be happier to be a fan of an organization that actually CARES about the team, and it's fans. I hate to say it, but not only did Mendoza find his way off the team because of his on-field play. He had ruffled feathers with a few of the veterens on the team, and the fans never really liked them. Well, the fans had spoken and so did the organization, and they decided to part ways with Andres.

On the Chicago trip last season, it was kind of cool that Mark Mccullers (GM of the Crew) came out to the Crew team tailgate to thank the team's fans on an excellent year. This is just an organization, top to bottom, that cares.

18 days until Crewsmas.

Agreed and well said. It's really easy to blast the Crew's front office, but they're hell bent on putting a winning team out on the field. They're not perfect, but they really do care.

Crewsmas can't come soon enough.

@ColumbusCrew: Clark Hunt announcing #Crew96 will be on @FoxSportsOH

I can't find anything else in this. I hope it's true and they're not messing around with us.

On the one hand. TWC gives me an alternate feed in HD in my program guide, though admittedly I'm more like to watch the Reds if I have to choose. On the other hand though, TWC and FSO have a history locally of not actually providing events on their alternate feed.
