Columbus Crew SC (2008, 2020, 2023 MLS Champions)

Would have loved to see Chandler Hoffman (would have been a steal... and a Generation Adidas player to boot... lots of folks were expecting him to land in the first 3 picks after how he performed at the combine), but Finlay's a good one. Also can play in the midfield for us, like Speas.

Here's a bio for Finlay from Creighton. One of 3 finalists for the Hermann Award (NCAA soccer's Heisman Trophy) and a 2-time All-American.

Trying to dig up some highlights of him. They said he showed up late to the combine and still scored a hat trick... Don't like his timeliness, but who am I to judge? I've never been on time to anything.
I've tried looking for some stuff on him too. No really good highlight tapes out there that I saw, but there's a lot of bits and pieces. Looks like he's always in the right place at the right time, especially off of rebounds and in clutch time.

Didn't hear that bit about the hat trick! I know he's thought fairly highly of in coaching circles. Anxious to see how he'll fit in with this team.

A deflection, but still a game winning goal.

My internet is being a piece of shit currently, so I'll just leave that one video. Sorry. :(

It is SB Nation, but they have some decent coverage of the MLS.

Ethan Finlay

Took him 17 minutes to score the hat trick.

Sporting KC fans singing "Because I Got High"

Good article! 17 minutes... man that's Stern John kinda such. The article lists him as a Generation Adidas player, but everywhere else I've read he's not listed as one. If he's a GA, that would be stellar.

Would have liked to Hoffman. I think he's going to have a Taylor Twellman type of impact on the league. Sky's the limit for him. He's not as versatile as Finlay though, and Warzycha loves him some versatility to get the best players on the field.

I heard during the draft that if they are GA players, it doesn't count against the cap. So here's to hoping he's a GA player. Giving Columbus more money to spend on their DP.

Correct, and they don't count towards the senior roster and are automatically protected in entry drafts (like HomeGrown players). They're valuable players if you can get them. We've had a number of them over the years. Dilly Duka just recently came off the program and is now counts towards the senior roster.

At pick 20... 6 more picks until we pick again. Quite a few good players that could make a mark for us... thinking Jumper, Garcia, Yomada, or Mallace.

Yomada would be a steal if he's still there... If not, I want Jumper. Mallace was just taken by Montreal.

Also, Ethan Finlay is NOT in the Generation Adidas 2012 Class.

2012 Class:
Sam Garza
Chandler Hoffman
Darren Mattocks
Kelyn Rowe
Andrew Wenger
Tony Cascio
Nick DeLeon
Luis Silva
Casey Townsend

Real didn't pick Yomada! Jumper and Yomada still on the board, Crew will be on the clock next.

Tough TOUGH pick. But you gotta think they are going to go with a attacking midfield/forward type for their Designated Player. So I'm saying Jumper. And THEN if Yomada falls to 29th, TAKE HIM!

Overall, that was a really SLOPPY display by ESPN. The analysts didn't know player pronunciations, terrible soccer talk in between picks, and cutting off 14 picks early... Thankfully NBC Sports Network will be handling a majority of the MLS coverage this season.
