Columbus Blue Jackets (Official Thread)

Hainsey gets the game to 3-1 with a power play goal....

I'm having to listen to this over the internet. I live 30 miles outside of Columbus. How pathetic is that?!? EDIT: The Columbus radio crew said they were getting emails from a lot of people listening on the internet from other parts of Ohio who expected to get this time. apparently this game was only being shown in Chicago and Columbus.

As I was making this post, the Blackhawks scored to make it 4-1

nbc dropped this game and the st l. game about two weeks ago.

winds are a blowing... (thats all i can say public or private)

Only if the winds blow Bettman out of office, otherwise it probably won't affect the Wings much

Bettman resigning would be the best thing that can happen to the NHL.

not bettman, or at least that i know of.
honestly i cant hate on bettman he pushed for columbus the second time around after the city and citizens fucked up on getting the whalers... he pushed very hard for columbus and though he made it so that the mad cows wouldnt be the name of the franchise i cant say too much bad about him. though if the nat was nicknamed the barn and i got to mooo 40some times a year i think id be happier man than watching these guys "buzz" around and suck...

Well there is that....

The main problem with Bettman is where the game has gone under his watch and his (along with the players) handling of the 2004-2005 lost season. The game's exposure has diminished significantly, his ideas continually fall flat, and although the numbers show higher attendance, I'm pretty sure that can be attributed to the change in how they count attendance now.

They've taken the physical part of the game out of the equation. They are calling flopping more consistently this year, but it's still an issue. And if he eliminates fighting it's practically soccer on ice skates. How well is soccer doing these days?

wont find disagreement with that from me. but from the way i see it, what i said above, and his "cap" has allowed teams like columbus (the second smallest tv market in the nhl) to be able to compete and in all reality without the cap we couldnt have kept our young core together. no way we could have signed nash/z/pasi/rusty to their deals. no way. and on the columbus issue many i think blame him for that. only one team has never made the playoffs, columbus.

True, but I don't think Bettman should get the congrats for the cap. It was coming with or without him. I do think that he approached it in a way that put the players in the mind that they could wait him out.

Either way I think Columbus will be in the playoffs within the next 3 years if they hold things together and make good decisions in FA/drafting.

Here's why:

1) the relative age vis a vis the Western Conference is Old. Dallas is old, Detroit is old, Colorado isn't getting any younger really, etc. Columbus, OTOH, has most of it's players relatively young. if they stay together they could be pretty good with a couple more pieces and some room to develop.

2) with the cap and with a management group that appears to be ready to spend some money, players will come to Columbus.

3) The law of averages has to work out their way eventually

aww shucks thanks...
though i do agree the reality is in 3 or so years a lot of teams will be rebuilding and with the young core (nash/z/pasi/klesla/hainsey/danny boy/svits etc) they could be primed for a deeper run.

the reality is in columbus they have a good young core, a few solid veterans whove won but the middle group is eh. modin and carter are good players, but beyond that you have manny and chimmer. you dont have the guts in the middle to grind through it. young kids are suspect to lapses.

the cap, he made it happen. and im sorry but i like guys who drive a tough line. the league had the upper hand and they knew it. they used that.

i dont know what "management" group you are referring to unless its the macs...

diving is though the one thing that gets me. youve got two polar opposites in my view in sid and nasher. sid dives like well hes greg looseanus and nash skates through everything and his held and hooked probably more than anyother player in the league. sid gets about every call. id like to see them calling diving more, or ramp up the penalty for the dive. make ita double or go for a five min major i dont know. granted i think flopping should be a tech in basketball...

No problem  Columbus has Hitchcock, the man is a genius and if he gets the proper support the Blue Jackets will be just fine.

Just wait until you're trying to figure out which players will disappear (Datsyuk) in the playoffs

From what I've been told, he gave them the hard line, but then made it appear there was room for negotiation. Maybe that was the tactic, but if they didn't want a lost season it was a bad tactic. Both sides tried to wait the other out. It was pretty sad. I may be wrong too, it's all 3rd hand info

That's who I am talking about. I don't include the ownership in that, but MacLean will go after players he thinks he needs. Now whether I agree with all his moves is another matter for another time....

Diving pisses me off to no end. assholes like Avery and Crosby do that crap all the time, but at least Avery will fight from time to time (when he isn't turtling)....

If you want to pay Datsyuk $7 million a year, be my guest. He might return to Detroit for $5 million per, but that depends on if he actually shows up in the playoffs this year or not I guess.

Maybe Sid will learn. But there is another kid that's 16 right now who might be BETTER than Crosby in Canada right now.
