Columbus Blue Jackets (Official Thread)

Play @Dallas on Thursday and then home finale against Nashville on Saturday.

Not playing until Thursday should allow the CBJ to rest the legs a little. That should be a play off atmosphere like no other.

Phoenix @ Detroit tonight in a game I fully expect Detroit to win.
Dallas @ SJ on Tuesday in a game that SJ needs a point to clinch a spot right?
Wednesday you have LA @ Detroit. Have to root for dick head Carter and the Kings again.

Saturday, Dallas and Detroit play each other in a game that could have HUGE implications for the CBJ.

CBJ just need to win their games and they are in. What a week this will be for CBJ fans!!

This. Bob looked tired, and with so many games so late due to being on the West Coast....this will allow them (hopefully) to come on strong for the last two games.

Rested legs are very important after a huge road trip like this has been.

I wouldn't bet on Detroit winning anything at this point. They have no one that wants to shoot the puck and if you don't shoot, you don't score a ton.

Not necessarily - only one team out of the playoffs right now can catch them (Detroit). If Detroit gets less than 2 points in their next game, San Jose clinches.

CBJ just need to win their games and they are in. What a week this will be for CBJ fans!!
Actually this is incorrect. Due to the ROW first tiebreaker, Columbus needs the following to happen:

1. Win all games (4 points possible) and hope Detroit only wins 3 of their remaining 4 games (6 out of 8 points) and outright loses one game without going to OT/SO. This would give the CBJ a 1 point margin.

2. Win all games (4 points possible) with both of those being in regulation, giving the CBJ 19 ROWs. Detroit, with 18 ROWs, wins 1 game or less in Regulation, but also garners less than 8 points (7 would yield a tie).

IF the CBJ win out and Detroit wins out (they won't, trust me), Detroit will have a one point advantage. Similarly with Dallas, if Dallas wins out and the CBJ win out, the CBJ will have 1 more point, but if the CBJ get less than 4 points and Dallas gets all 6 of their points, things could get interesting.

This doesn't factor in a collapse by SJ, STL or Minnesota however.

Dallas and CBJ can't both win out though. They play each other.

But if the Red Wings go that way, assuming Minnesota wins out, then we're eliminated right?

Yep - they would lose the first tiebreaker (ROW) against both Minny and Detroit if Detroit wins more than 19 games in Regulation/ot (Detroit currently has 18) so if 2 of those wins in the 3-0-1 scenario are regulation/ot wins, Detroit is in the playoffs.

If Detroit for some reason gets those wins, but has two of them in a shootout while one in Regulation/ot and both CBJ games are regulation/ot wins, the next tiebreaker would be greater number of points in games between the teams (head to head) and in that case, Columbus is in the playoffs.

Should be interesting.

Summing up the CBJ's chances in one post:)
There are some straight-forward facts, led by this one: if Detroit wins its final four games, the Red Wings will make the playoffs for the 22nd consecutive season. The Red Wings, on a 3-5-3 spin since March 25, have not won four straight games all season.

As of this morning, here's the situation from the Blue Jackets' perspective:

THE JACKETS ARE IN IF ...

-- They win their final two games in regulation AND Detroit loses one of its final four in regulation OR goes 3-0-1 with two or more shootout wins. If the Blue Jackets win both of their final games (regulation/overtime/shootout, doesn't matter) the Stars would be eliminated,

-- They go 1-0-1 in the final two games AND Detroit goes 2-1-1 or worse AND Dallas loses any of its last three games, either in regulation or OT/shootout.

-- They go 1-1-0 in the final two games AND Detroit goes 2-2-0 or worse AND Dallas goes 2-1-0 or worse

REMAINING SCHEDULES

CBJ: @ Dallas, Thursday; vs. Nashville, Saturday

DET: vs. Phoenix, tonight; vs. Los Angeles, Wednesday; vs. Nashville, Thursday; @ Dallas, Saturday

DAL: @ San Jose, Tuesday; vs. Columbus, Thursday; vs. Detroit, Saturday
