Columbus Blue Jackets (Official Thread)

If you take away the horrendous start to the season, is this one of the all-time great Ewing Theory seasons?

I don't know about all time great, but it's an interesting discussion.

I really think they would be about the same place this year with or without Nash. The Carter trade that brought Jack Johnson has meant more IMO.

Looks like Detroit isn't going to go down without a fight. They destroyed Pheonix.

But now they'll have a bigger challenge in Los Angeles. Too bad LA can't fight for home ice advantage.

That was about the best Detroit has looked all year long. I wouldn't bet on it happening twice.

I didn't see the game; however, I was just hoping it was a case of Phoenix playing really bad, not Detroit playing that good. Regardless, all wins show up as 2 points in the standings.

They don't need it to happen twice though, they just need to score more goals than the other team. That's what concerns me. I don't expect them to dominate their last three games.

I think you missed what I meant - I've said it several times, Detroit has been so wildly inconsistent this year I kinda doubt they'll play anywhere near that level again in the next 3 games at least.

The Wings have this very annoying tendency to play timidly. That wasn't the case last night - if that team shows up every game and attacks like they did last night, only Chicago and maybe LA could stop them. But they won't - partly because guys like Franzen don't play aggressively all the time and because eventually the fact they don't have more than 2 NHL-caliber D-men will be exploited.

Keep an eye on Minnesota, they are seriously in a tailspin.

I could see Detroit and the CBJ making the playoffs and Minny missing out entirely.

Matt Calvert signs extension

Left wing Matt Calvert, a valuable forechecker with the Columbus Blue Jackets, has signed a two-year contract extension that will pay him almost $1 million a season through 2014-15.
The 23-year-old left wing is currently out with a broken index finger on his right hand and is expected to miss the club's final two regular-season games. He is one of the reasons the Blue Jackets are in the thick of the Western Conference playoff race, entering Tuesday's play in eighth place.
