RumblingsDoug MacLean, the former Blue Jackets president and general manager who has routinely criticized the team on his radio show in Toronto, gave the franchise a ringing endorsement for its hiring of John Davidson ? with a few backhanded swipes at team president Mike Priest.
?I think it?s a good move,? MacLean said. ?Look, they tried putting a bean counter in as a president in Mike Priest, and Mike Priest, who was the accountant when I was there and a very good accountant, thought he was a hockey guy. Like the stories I hear from the staff there about him walking in and Googling players and getting involved in player trades. ?
?I think it?s positive all the way around. I think it?s a good move. And let?s hope it works out.?
MacLean also said if Davidson had been hired earlier, the Jackets? roster would be far different than it is now.
?If John Davidson is the president a year ago, the Rick Nash trade is never made,? MacLean said. ?You know what? Now they have a chance with a hockey guy running the organization. If Mike Priest keeps his nose out of it and lets JD run the show ? it will be great for the franchise.?

RumblingsThe Forbes.com report that showed the Toronto Maple Leafs as the first NHL team worth $1 billion and listed the Blue Jackets’ value at $145 million, 28th in the league, included other information that seems illuminating in light of the lockout.
Forbes indicated that the sport’s three most profitable teams — the Maple Leafs, New York Rangers and Montreal Canadiens — accounted for 83 percent of the league’s income, while 13 of 30 teams lost money. Forbes also estimated that the Leafs, Rangers and Canadiens earned a combined $171 million in profits in the 2011-12 season. The other 27 clubs lost a collective $44 million, a dramatic illustration of the gap between the rich and poor teams in the NHL.
