Columbus Blue Jackets (Official Thread)

Hell I was waiting for the soul-crushing "what the hell was Mason doing there" goal to happen, but it didn't.

Right! Surprisingly enough, I'd say Mason played the best out there tonight... Yikes.

My bad about not getting ahold of you before the game, the weather threw me off a bit.

It wasn't on him.. but the team looks like they hate playing when he's in net. He kills their confidence. They have looked good since firing Arniel, until Mason played. I don't think that's a coincidence. Get him the [censored] out of Columbus (after playing him every game for the rest of the year to secure the worst record).

I do agree with this. Just watching the game, you can tell the team plays different and the players act different when Mason is in goal. When Stanford is in goal you can just tell that the team wants to win. When Mason is on goal, the team is just like "meh..if we win we win". This team has always had attitude problems either towards certain players or coaches. I don't think we've every had a team that was all on the same page.

I've always wondered how this can be in professional sports where the only goal is TO WIN.

Unreal. For those that don't want to bother reading it, here it is in a nutshell:

  • GM Scott Howson and president Mike Priest are both going to be back next season.
  • Goalie Steve Mason will not be back and could be put on waivers. Either way, the team is ready to cut ties with him.
  • Don't be surprised to see Jeff Carter gone. Hasn't meshed with Rick Nash and, even though he says he's happy to be here, he isn't.
  • Injuries and bad luck hurt this team. Hopefully (according to the Blue Jackets brain trust) the luck changes next season. Portzline's comment on this is pretty funny.
  • Trade deadline could see the likes of Pahlson, Carter, Prospal, Vermette gone.
  • Blue Jackets saw a spike in attendance this year that is expected to plummet (rightfully so) next season.
All in all, don't expect to see a major overhaul Jackets fans. You see, it's all just been bad luck. Only this team with this ownership could get away with the bad luck excuse.

Howson and Priest safe.

I don't see them parting ways with Carter or Prospel. Both just joined the team and haven't had a full season to even meld with their teammates. Plus with Carter's huge deal there is no way they give up on him. Prospel has been the 2nd best overall player on the team this year behind Nash.

Now I could see Vermette or Pahlson getting traded. Both have been solid players for us, but could be good bait for other teams to be interested. Again though, both of them have bigger contracts with us then a normal NHL team would give...which could cause issues.

Prospal's on a one year deal... so you might as well get something for him. Plus he's in his mid 30's. Same with the rest mentioned (Pahlson, Vermette)

Carter could move if someone can take the contract, so that decision may not happen until summer.

If Prospal stays past the trade deadline, Howson should be fired.. he should get a second round pick at worst. Prospal won't be back next season. He'll go somewhere and try to win.

I don't think they'll move Carter unless they can get a #1 d in return. No reason to. Also, if they move Carter for anything less than overpayment, Howson should also be fired. They traded a lot to get him.

They need to dump Pahlsson, Huselius and Prospal at the very least. They're all UFAs next year. Mason needs to be gone just because he's the worst starter in the league in years.

Just what I think anyways. :p
