Columbus Blue Jackets (Official Thread)

The Jackets are about to notch their 6th win, and 15th point. To put into perspective how horrible the Jackets started, the Blackhawks got their 15th point (and 16th) on Oct 31st.

Here's to hoping this chemistry keeps developing between the current players. I like what I've seen the last 4 or so games.

Sounds like a good start to the weekend!

I really feel badly for Mason. I know he's making a ton of money and he's been WAY below average, but the kid is 23 years old and he's about the most unpopular figure in Columbus right now.

Hopefully Sanford can keep it up. They are playing well in front of him right now and that's something that I can't say about the team that was playing in front of Mason.

I don't feel sorry for him a bit. He got a shot at being an NHL level goalie and became a wealthy guy at a very young age. He'll bounce back eventually - the basic skills are good enough that he can stay in the league for a while.

He needs a fresh start at this point.

Being a Blue Jacket fan (with all the excitement/ups and disappointments/downs) is about like riding a roller coaster:

Jackets actually came back from a 3-1 deficit late in the game (tied it with less than a minute left) to win in the shootout against Calgary. Nikitin had three points (1g, 2a), including scoring the second goal and a beautiful fucking pass (the profanity is necessary, trust me) to Nash for the game-tying goal. That's turning out to be a fantastic trade for the Jackets. He looks confident in both ends. He's not afraid to shoot. Really nice pickup. My roommate is a big Blues fan and he hated Nikitin. Nice turnaround.

Russell has been doing well in St. Louis too. 4 goals, 1 assist in 9 games. Good numbers for an undersized D. Roommate said he led the team in minutes in a recent game.

EDIT: Having a little conversation with Torg on Twitter about the Jackets. :p

Has the common idiot and the retorg been canceled yet? MY work schedule changed and there is no way I can ever listen to them even by mistake :banger:

Only a matter time with Urban Meyer in town, well at least we can hope. Not that I don't love constant updates on Brett Favre, the Vikings, and Chicago sports in general.

They both actually said at one point during a broadcast (this was awhile ago) that if Urban Meyer comes in then they are probably done.

Here's hoping. I haven't listened to them in months. Dan Patrick podcast on my phone for the ride home.

That time slot is begging for an intelligent, Ohio State centered show.

NHL Approves Four-Conference Realignment Plan

The NHL Board of Governors has approved a four-conference realignment plan, according to Gary Lawless of the Winnipeg Free-Press. According to Lawless, each team would play one another in a home-and-home.
The realignment was proposed because of the move of the Atlanta Thrashers to Winnipeg; the Jets are playing this season in the Southeast Divison. After this season, there will be no more divisions, but just four conferences, according to James Mirtle of the Globe and Mail.
.
.
.
Update #2: One of the conferences will be Washington, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, both New York teams (Islanders and Rangers), New Jersey and Carolina. Another will be Columbus, Chicago, Dallas, Detroit, Minnesota, Nashville, St. Louis and Winnipeg.

Probably the best thing that could have happened honestly. There was no way in hell the Board of Governors were going to swap Columbus to the East for Winnipeg over Detroit.

The conferences have not been named.
"The chance to stay in our time zone the chance to play two Original Six teams lots (Chicago and Detroit) and other very good teams in that conference and the chance to have every team in the league come into our building every year I think is a real positive," said Mark Chipman, chairman and governor of the Jets.
Teams will play home-and-home series against all nonconference teams and five or six games in their conference. The top four teams in each conference will make the playoffs, with the first two rounds consisting of solely intraconference matchups. Bettman said he will consult with general managers in the spring before deciding whether to reseed the playoffs in the third round or to have pre-determined matchups.
