Columbus Blue Jackets (Official Thread)

And just where the fuck has that been all year long?

Agreed. The worst part about being stationed in Texas is I NEVER get to watch the Jackets. In CBus I'd watch every game. I'd love to see them finish this season on a positive note and go into the next with some momentum and optimism.

with Detroit's win tonight the CBJ are officially eliminated from the playoffs.

Sorry guys. Better luck next year.

Ok well maybe not "officially" at least according to E$PN.com, but they need to make up 17 points in 8 games. that won't happen.

Although I will say that certainly this team has left at least 10 points on the ice this year that they should have gotten but didn't. Add to that the better play we've seen recently and they could have been right in the thick of things.

Kind of a large game tonight for the CBJ.

If they win they continue to play much better during this stretch of the year than the beginning, which is something a team this young can build upon.

However, they are playing Tampa tonight. Tampa has 72 points, is still somehow in the playoff chase in the East (mainly because it's the East) and the CBJ are only 3 points ahead of them for the draft order. If the CBJ somehow lose tonight, Tampa will be 1 point back with florida and the NYI 3 points back. It's the difference between the 4th through 8th picks. Edmonton has wrapped up the first pick in the draft by now

That was a hell of an effort last night from Mason.

If he plays like that and they keep scoring like they did this year, this team should make the playoffs.

It will be interesting to see who they hire as a coach. they played much better unde Noel than they did under Hitch (mainly because they quit on him).

Hopefully next year will be much better. I think we need to make some off season moves for at least one big name guy. Nash can only do so much, and he didn't seem like himself this past season. We will also be much better off next year because Mason will be out of his sophmore slump.

not sure what you expected from nash. juice/verm/nash put up 190+ points. thats not all that bad. the 2nd line produced what 120ish, and 3rd line scoring (if you can call it that) was nonexistent. nash logged heavy minutes, pp, pk, 4v4, etc. toss in the olympic rule and it was a rough year, hsi best season, no. disappointment, i wouldnt say so.

not sure, personally i liked a lot of what i saw this season. they didnt hide brassard that much. russ made some strides. stralman, well thats what youll get from him.

the realites are russ and stralman both at this time are 3rd pairing guys and im not sure you can ice both of them at the same time... or i wouldnt.

you still have the right hand shot issue on the blue line.

are you confident on the pivots? do you think verm can be a 1 or brassard can do it, or even can brass be a legit 2?

who will be your coach, what will the style be? (logic with the late season moves suggest faster, higher tempo) with push me towards a certain coach.

lots to puke out. but who knows.

Boucher Is The Guy (Puck-Rakers Blog)

The Blue Jackets have extended an offer to Guy Boucher to become their next coach, The Dispatch has learned via NHL sources.
Blue Jackets general manager Scott Howson would not comment, but NHL sources said Boucher was pondering an offer this weekend with an agreement to get back with Howson by early next week.
Boucher, coach of the American Hockey League's Hamilton Bulldogs, did not immediately respond to a message left by The Dispatch.
The Dispatch has learned that Boucher interviewed twice with Howson -- once in Hamilton, Ont., while Howson was attending the NHL Scouting Combine late last month, and once last week in Columbus.
No contract has been extended by the Blue Jackets, The Dispatch has been told, but the Blue Jackets offered the position to Boucher late this week. If he accepts, a contract will be negotiated. cont...

Just the guy I wanted, and I think Howson obviously was holding out for. Young, smart and real hands on. If Boucher accepts the job, I'm hoping to see big improvements with this team in the coming years.

This is the guy that had me intrigued as well. Here's hoping he doesn't mull the offer over too long. From everything I've read he's the next wunderkind coach. Let's hope he pulls the trigger and gets the CBJ on the right track in a hurry.

Word on 1460 The Fan today on the drive home was that Boucher said "thanks, but no thanks" to the Jackets.

Guess I understand him wanting to stay in the Habs system if he is indeed their choice for the future.

But it's kind of embarrassing to get turned down by a guy who has one year on the farm. You'd think any minor league coach would be champing at the bit for a shot at the big league.

The CBJ are still the big league, right??
