have you seen the grabovski incident?
3 games for that? i mean come on...

And Peca got 5 for nothing. Fucking comical.

Wait. Who does Grabovski play for? And where do the suspensions come from? Both in Toronto? Why, I'm certain that's just a coincidence.

Jeff Rimmer and Danny Gere were alluding to the fact that the refs are in the tank for Calgary at home. Gere even said at one point "No wonder they have such a good home record."

I'm not one to bitch about refs, but last night was bad. Sure the Jackets could have won the game, but some of those penalty calls were questionable at best.

Then they turn around and call on offsides on another Nash breakaway that wasn't offsides.

Not sure what the league has against Columbus...

JO, who is this guy G Wade Dubielewic? He was on the active roster for the Jackets for the Calgary game. I have never heard of him. Any help would be appreciated.

Former NY Islander. He was playing in Russia this season and the Isles tried to bring him back to fill in for them. The Jackets claimed him off waivers.

correct.

hes played 37 games for the nyi and a bunch for bridgeport (the ahl team for the isles aka the tigers). he went to the KHL this summer and played for ak bars (the team that freddie norrena went to). he was brought back over and signed a contract with the isles, he then was placed on waivers as all players brought over are and was legally claimed by the jackets.

kazan ak bars is also home to formerly to mayorov (07-08)

dubie (you can call him that) is a smaller goalie who is known for being smart and decent positonally. he doesnt have the umm well hes physical has limitiations, hes a 2-3 goaltender. he was a second team ahl all star in 03-04 and twice has won the hap (fewest ahl goals against) also won the red for ahl rookie of the year.

personally i would have picked up sanford. granted if i was in charge of the team youd have picked up wellwood (42/14/5/19+4) so who knows.

The Columbus Dispatch : Bob Hunter commentary: Rumblings

Matt Webster was eating dinner with business clients at an Ottawa hotel this week when their waiter was called away. A new waitress explained that she would be taking over their table because the waiter had to serve a hockey team that was staying in the hotel. Webster, a Blue Jackets fan and former Columbus resident who owns a software company in Princeton, N.J., knew the Ottawa Senators' schedule.
"That wouldn't be the Washington Capitals, would it?" he asked.
The waitress nodded and smiled. Webster opened the menu and pointed to a bottle of champagne priced at $35 Canadian.
"I would like to send this bottle to Mr. Alexander Ovechkin," he said. "Tell him it's courtesy of Steve Mason, Columbus Blue Jackets."
The waitress took the order and everyone at the table had a good laugh. Mason, the Jackets' goaltender, had shut out the Capitals and the high-scoring Russian star 10 days before in a game in which Ovechkin had registered 12 shots.
Webster can't say for sure that Ovechkin received the wine.

Mason getting a well deserved rest for what should set up to be a fun ride the second half of the season.

The Jackets will get key members back healthy (Chimera being one (moving to C by the way) and Klesla being another one) and they really rode out the injury storm better than I ever thought they would.

Chimera to center!

The Wings come to town on Tuesday night and Datsyuk and Lidstrom are out due to injury so that has to be considered a break for the Jackets.

The room has better chemistry than ever and the schedule is very favorable for the Jackets!!

Jackets At The Break.

Here's to a serious run at the playoffs.

I have to say the CBJ have really weathered what would have sunk about every other team except maybe Detroit with the injuries.

At this time, they aren't in the playoffs if they started today, but there's nearly 3 full months between now and the end of the regular season.

Here is how I think the West will shape up:

1. San Jose (112 points - President's Trophy) - They've been good in the regular season before and this year is no different. Now we'll see if they can do anything in the playoffs.

2. Detroit (108 Points) - The 2nd half will be about avoiding devastating injuries and fixing what is wrong with the defense.

3. Calgary (94 points) - By default, the best team in the Northwest is here. However this really is the 3rd best team in the west.

4. Chicago (97 points) - the best non-division winner goes here. While Chicago has the points, they might start to fall off a bit towards the end of the year. one big plus for them is they don't have to play Detroit until the last 2 games of the season.

5. Edmonton (92 points) - I think we haven't seen the best out of Edmonton yet. This is another team that was hit with the injury bug (while not as bad as Cbus) and look to be hitting their stride.

6. Vancouver (91 points) - The bottom half of the western playoff bracket is going to be fun to watch. I put Vancouver here due to their experience (Sundin, the Sedin twins) and their goalie, if he gets his groove back.

7. Anaheim (90 points) - for lack of a better option. This is the last year that Anaheim with this current roster is going to do very much. This would set up a very interesting matchup in round one with Detroit.

8. Phoenix/Dallas/Columbus - The first to 90 points wins probably. I like Dallas' chances here, they aren't nearly as bad as their first half would indicate. Phoenix has played wayyyyyyyyyyy over their heads and I see them hitting a wall sooner or later. Columbus is the big mystery. How long can Mason go? Will they stay healthy? Is there enough scoring (the defense is fine)....we shall see....out of those three, I'd make Dallas the favorite with Columbus right there with them.

Teams that aren't going to get there:

Phoenix/Columbus
Dallas/Columbus
Dallas/Phoenix
LA
Colorado :slappy:
Trashville
St. Louis

You left out Minnesota, they are currently ahead of us.

Also not sure I would discount Phoenix so quickly. I think they stay in the upper half and push Anaheim down into a C-bus/Minny/Anaheim/Dallas dog fight for the last spot. That is of course if Luongo returns to his dominating form. Without that Vancouver is done imo and its C-bus/Minny/Anaheim/Dallas for 2 spots.

The jackets will go exactly as Mason does if you ask me. Even at full strength health wise they won't be beating a lot of people if he is hurt/ineffective.

Really when you look at it it becomes a question of goaltenders. Who has the healthier and better second half..Luongo, Backstrom, Mason? Can Dallas overcome Turco or can he return to form? Hiller has been playing just a notch below Mason, can he keep it up? Will JSG get it back together and give Anaheim the best duo of the dogfight teams?

Personally I would have to discount the chances of any of the one stud and no backup goalie teams. As mediocre as the Ducks have been on paper they would seem to have the edge.

There's always something.

But Minny is only ahead due to wins - they are tied on points. And I think Minny will probably fall out due to lack of scoring. People are going to break down their zone trap game at some point and losing Gaborik is going to hurt. Also I wouldn't be shocked if they trade Nicklas Backstrom because he is going to be a UFA and there is no way in hell they are going to resign him.

Excellent point, I forgot all about that.

Can't wait to see how it all plays out!
