Columbus Blue Jackets (Official Thread)

Re: Williams has seven goals and 11 assists in 41 games this season for the Thrashers, who have faded from playoff contention and are looking to shed salary.
The Jackets will inherit about $1 million of his $2.2 million salary. Williams will be an unrestricted free agent at season's end. He has 73 goals and 103 assists in 337 career games. His best season came with the Detroit Red Wings in 2005-06, when he had 21 goals and 37 assists.
Williams is no stranger to at least one of his new teammates, Raffi Torres. The Jackets forward, while a member of the Edmonton Oilers, threw a devastating check that concussed Williams on Nov. 6, 2006. Williams was traded later that season to Chicago, where he remained until signing with the Thrashers over the summer.

Interesting.

interesting trade. as it works out it is jody shelley and a minor league offensive efneceman (not i purposely left out the D).

williams has played for the wings and hawks before going to the thrashers. hes a very good SO player. he can play the right point on the man power, right handed shot, plays rw or c. 2.2m which prorated is about 1.1m hit for the jackets. he has pretty decent skill level and a nice shot. basically a low risk move. ill liken this to the mike york type of move. could we get something out of this, sure. if not oh well, not much went into it.

08-09 41 gp 7 g 11 a 18 pts -9
07-08 43/13/23/36/-2
06/07 78/15/17/32/1
05/06 80/21/37/58/7

total nhl 337/73/103/176/1

mayorov was returned to cuse

nash and torres should be back for the devils friday.

the Williams trade is a good trade, didnt really have to give up much for him

id like to maybe see a trade for a solid Center.........

Brassard was playing so well, and then of course he lands on the IR for the season :smash:

Honestly. I pick up the paper (I missed the game last night) and I read another piece about the Jackets getting fucked by Toronto.

Michael Arace Commentary

It's just like when I used to watch the Penguins. Gretzky would get a call if someone stared at him too long and Mario would be carrying three guys on his back to the net and no call.

Fucking Toronto.

We had some Buckeye on Buckeye violence tonight. Umberger and Kesler went at it.

Crazy freaking game. 3-1 Canucks, then 5-3 Jackets now 5-5 with about 3 min to go.

Nash scores the game winner in a shootout!!

Jackets win 6-5 after starting out down 1-3.

Yeah I watched the 1st and then the 3rd, OT, and shootout. We dominated the 2nd half of the 3rd period. Had my guess about 8-10 shots and many many scoring chances. Great win tonight for them though.

Yeah when Mason has a bad night and you still win its great.

Nash is a beast.

Canucks are in a High Altitude maybe never Opening free fall right now. Holy schnikees.

LeClaire out for the year, will have surgery on his right ankle.

Mason will not play in the youngstars game, he's scheduled to start tonight and tomorrow and has been suffering from back spasms lately.

Chimera won't return til after the break.

@ Edmonton tonight 9 pm, Filatov is questionable with a leg injury.

Nash became the franchise's leading scorer with a 3 pt performance @ van a couple nights ago.

I really wonder if Pascal LeClaire has played his last game in a CBJ uni.....

When I thought there was absolutely no chance of the Jackets coming back against Cro-Magnon Man and the Canucks, Nash decides to take the game over in the 2nd period.

They need 3 points in their final 2 games before the ASG. The schedule doesn't really let up until the middle of February and then again at the end of March. They have to make their move within the first couple weeks after the ASG to stay in the race.

It'd be nice for Mase to be able to get a break.

Hockey novice question:
How does extended stays in goal affect a goalies performance in the long run? I mean, I can't remember the last time Mase wasn't between the pipes.

Unless you are Marty Brodeur or Patrick Roy, playing more than 60 games usually isn't a good thing. I would look for Columbus to make a move to get a decent NHL backup goalie. I'm afraid Dan LaCosta may not be ready for the big time like Steve was.

Given that Mason is a rookie and not used to the wear and tear, no it's NOT a good thing.

However, Columbus claimed Wade Dubielewicz from the KHL off of waivers and he's going to be the backup now. He's serviceable if nothing else.
