Columbus Blue Jackets (Official Thread)

Hey, jackasses, if you stop taking stupid penalties, they might let you play even strength for awhile. Just a little tip. :pissed:

Take one more, though, and I'm hopping the next flight to Phoenix and I'm going to bitchslap someone.

The Columbus Dispatch : Michael Arace commentary: Blue Jackets face tough decision on Malarchuk
Last week, Clint Malarchuk shot himself in the chin with a .22-caliber rifle. The incident occurred at Malarchuk's ranch in Gardnerville, Nev. The Douglas County sheriff investigated and concluded the shooting was "accidental under suspicious circumstances."

Which is to say this looked exactly like a suicide attempt, but there is no way to prove it.
Malarchuk, after resisting, ultimately accepted treatment and was hospitalized. He has since been discharged. His coaching career is in jeopardy and he has put the Jackets in an awful position. This gunshot will reverberate for days, months, years.
I should say, off the top, that Malarchuk is one of the most compelling and likable human beings I've met. He will open himself up to the point of utter vulnerability. He will do anything for his friends. He is a true cowboy, a Western throwback, a rare brand of man. There isn't a phony fiber in his being.
Malarchuk is also tortured, almost beyond comprehension. He was violently abused by his father. He was hospitalized because of anxiety attacks when he was 12. He has suffered from a debilitating case of obsessive-compulsive disorder. He has been gripped with severe bouts of depression.
Malarchuk's infamous injury -- he nearly died on March 22, 1989, while tending goal for the Buffalo Sabres, when an upturned skate slashed open his jugular vein -- at first gave him nightmares, and later unleashed some of the demons of his youth.
Malarchuk sat down for an interview last spring, before the 19th anniversary of his gruesome injury. He was, as usual, bluntly honest. At one point, his wife, Joanie, turned to him and said, "You've got all of these stuffed-up emotions, and they're coming up now."

continued...

interesting article, i guess.

that being sad thats the third "incident" in a year. he once again puts the team and the org between a rock and a hard spot. though i dont see a whole lot of viable choices out there. goalies and their coaches have special bonds. clints one of the best if not the best.

also their is apparently zero video evidence on the peca thing. it will be peca vs the linesman and referee.

that being said peca is highly regarded around the league. i can say that if mike peca told me something i would take it as absolute fact. period.

The fact that the ref is proclaiming that Peca swung his stick at the glass when from what I've seen he hasn't come anywhere near that makes me wonder if this ref knows he screwed up and is taking it out on Peca....you know, kinda like what a 5 year old would do....

I have to think that if Sundin and Cujo got nothing after watching those vids then nothing will come of this. Mike Peca isn't exactly a loose cannon out there. Like he said himself, it takes an awful lot to get him upset. He's wearing the A and the ref is skating away refusing to talk to him?? If anything that crew should get some time off for the way they reffed that game.

Any chance that he's held in higher regard than league officials?

Yes, this is a serious question. :tongue2:

peca hasnt denied he tugged on the refs sweater. he hasnt denied he hit the glass. he has denied he hit the linesman. (which is part of the issue). no one else has said they hit the linesman which it very well could have been. its so hard to tell from the one (camera phone of a guy jumping up and down) vantage that is out there. their were 10 skaters and a goaltender in the zone. a handfull in close proximity to goal.

who knows but putting this thing off "indef" and waiting until thursday (2 games plus the game misconduct) seems like a tad odd to me.

once again, not that it really matters but colin campblell, father of blackhawks defenseman b campbell is the czar of this stuff. Their has been more than one allegation of interesting stuff in regard to players in campbells division, from his days in buffalo.

ive shown video of the sundin and cujo incidents and referenced the crosby incident. i just dont see it...
