he will resign in denver. i said it before it was going to take 3.75m to do the deal. howson didnt want to budge over 3.5m, when that was made clear foote made the choice not to take less than his original offer. 3.75m would have gotten it done.

With Fedorov and Vyborny (God at least I hope) coming off the books this year Howson was in a pissing contest over a measly 250K? That's bad.

Well, because the Jackets have no chance of signing Sundin, that's the point. Why even mention a 38 year old center? Maybe they can talk Ron Francis out of retirement.

Why? Well I don't know, he still has gas in the tank and could probably take a 3 year deal with similar numbers to what Fedorov made at this point. Not to mention he still actually can score and make plays, something Fedorov lost somewhere in 2003.

the cbj werent going to land mats, he wasnt going to waive his no movement clause, no way he was going to sign that waiver to go to columbus, he wasnt willing to waive it to go anywhere...

youve got brassard, you cant put that load on a 19 year old kid. acutally hes jsut been sent back to cuse. then you have brule, hes probably pegged at this point to turn into a peca style 2/3 centre. you need a #1 pivot for that first line. reality is nash and z wont play together they both are better with the puck, split those two up.

looking at the ufa list for this year you have few if any ufas worth signing. will scott make a push for marleau or another pivot on the blocks this summer, is he worth the two #1s the cbj now have.

lots of options with those two picks, you also can go steal someone with an offer sheet this summer...

He has to make a splash this summer or this franchise is not going to take that step.

McLean really didn't do this franchise any favors.

The day after the Blue Jackets traded captain Adam Foote and veteran center Sergei Fedorov for help for the 2012 playoffs -- a draft pick and a college kid -- the players who were clinging to tenuous 2008 playoff hopes before the moves seemed determined to prove that they haven't given up on the season.
There was all the familiar talk in the morning about "regrouping" and "moving on" and "stepping up," the stiff upper lip athletes are taught to project whenever it appears a mysterious force has slipped into the arena and turned the lights out on the rest of the season.

Fans show their support for Jody Shelley, who was playing his first game in Nationwide Arena since being traded to the Sharks on Jan. 29.

It's not so much that captain Adam Foote and center Sergei Fedorov were missing from the lineup. Really, the Blue Jackets played lots of games like this with Foote and Fedorov the past 2 ? seasons.
But the events of Tuesday, when Foote was shipped back to Colorado and Fedorov to Washington, have sent the Blue Jackets reeling, not so much on the ice but off it.
A 4-2 loss last night to the San Jose Sharks in front of 16,029 in Nationwide Arena was a sobering snapshot of what the rest of the season might look like if the vacuum of leadership isn't filled.

Blue Jackets: Foote says he's still surprised by trade
Former captain has no regrets or bad feelings
Friday, February 29, 2008 3:09 AM
By Tom Reed

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

VANCOUVER, British Columbia -- Several hours after being traded, former Blue Jackets captain Adam Foote boarded a Cessna Citation X, the fastest civilian aircraft in operation, bound for Calgary, Alberta.
Some might suggest that Foote, whose Columbus-area home has been for sale since the offseason, was in a hurry to leave.
The defenseman said that's not true, even though by traveling at speeds approaching Mach 1, he arrived in Calgary in time to help his old team, the Colorado Avalanche, defeat the Flames on Tuesday.

Blue Jackets notebook: Rome has ring, wants more time

Friday, February 29, 2008 3:03 AM

The Columbus Dispatch

VANCOUVER, British Columbia -- Aaron Rome has played one NHL game and received one Stanley Cup ring.
It's a spectacular ratio, but the Blue Jackets defenseman hopes to alter it dramatically.
Rome might get that chance as soon as tonight as the Blue Jackets begin a three-game swing through western Canada against the Vancouver Canucks. Coach Ken Hitchcock said if Rome doesn't play in Vancouver, he will get a shot in Edmonton or Calgary.

Jackets salvage unlikely win

Saturday, March 1, 2008 3:21 AM
By Tom Reed

The Columbus Dispatch

VANCOUVER, British Columbia -- Ken Hitchcock's most humbling moment as Blue Jackets coach came in this radiant city on the Pacific Coast.
Hitchcock was trying to clear Canadian customs last summer when the agent asked him his occupation. He told the man he coached the NHL franchise in Columbus.
The agent grew suspicious and countered by saying, "There's no NHL team in Columbus."
Hitchcock can only hope that guardian of the gate was watching last night.
The Blue Jackets rallied from a two-goal, third-period deficit to stun the Canucks 3-2 in overtime in GM Place. Jason Chimera won it by driving to the net and converting a perfect feed from Nikolai Zherdev 1:07 into the extra period.

  • Blue Jackets

Thoughts that have remained dormant for years have worked to the front of my brain this week. Wisps of memory have emerged, unbidden, and they're telling me that we've all been played by Adam Foote, that he is not the leader of men that he purported to be, and not just because he quit the Blue Jackets.

Notebook: Jackets still have plenty of leaders, Modin says

Saturday, March 1, 2008 2:58 AM

The Columbus Dispatch

VANCOUVER, British Columbia -- Blue Jackets winger Fredrik Modin has a message for his teammates in the wake of Adam Foote's departure.
Modin is not going to shout it across the room, however. He's not going to get in a player's face, either.

Perhaps you should start watching more movies and not the CBJ:biggrin:
The rest of us would like to see them in the playoffs.
