Exactly what ails Jackets' Vyborny?
Veteran says he feels good, but stats sickly

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Blue Jackets right winger David Vyborny insists he's healthy and that he's not preoccupied by his looming free agency this summer or anything else off the ice.
But something is not right.
Vyborny, one of the Blue Jackets' most consistent point producers the past four seasons, has become the most glaring culprit in the club's secondary scoring troubles, which threaten to gas their playoff chances.

Blue Jackets notebook: Fritsche knows the feeling
Jackets forward once suffered serious gash
Wednesday, February 13, 2008 3:19 AM
By Tom Reed

The Columbus Dispatch

Goaltenders coach Clint Malarchuk wasn't the only member of the Blue Jackets experiencing flashbacks Sunday when seeing replays of a frightening injury suffered by Florida's Richard Zednik.
Winger Dan Fritsche also knows the terror of watching blood pour from a wound after being inadvertently kicked by a skate blade. Tendons and an artery were severed in Fritsche's right wrist Feb. 25, 2007, during a game against Nashville in Nationwide Arena.

At this point, you can't 'settle' for 1 point. With the remaining schedule, it looks like another non-playoff year.

Maybe it's best to entertain offers for Foote at this point.

what are you talking about? they're tied for the 9 spot right now with Phoenix, and have the head to head tie-breaker against them... yeah, as of today they're a point out, but the entire southeast still has to play each other, and at least two of them will get knocked out. realistically, the Jackets are still looking at the 8 seed, and possibly the 7. given the fact that they collectively lost twice as many games as they won the first 6 seasons or whatever, i think that maybe we shouldn't be throwing in the towel so soon when they're still very much in the mix.

fuck, i hate the Ohio sports fan's loser's metality.

Was at the game tonight... well for the first two periods anyway. I've never walked out of a Jackets game before, but tonight was brutal. It seemed like we were playing with little effort and Chicago punished us for it. Can't give Freddy all of the blame for the goals the D left him out to dry. Hope they can get their heads out of their asses for this road trip otherwise look forward to some of the guys being shipped out.

I know you posted this before the debacle tonight, but let me respond.

Firstly, this stretch of games after the All-Star break was make or break time. They pretty much broke. They had many chances to win games they ended up losing (the first Phoenix game, the Washington game for example, the San Jose game where they outplayed the Sharks for the ENTIRE game) and you can't do that this time of year.

They are lucky the rest of the bottom half of the West hasn't pulled away so they are still in it.

However, unlike last year (and even the year before that) when this team really put things together and IMPROVED the second half of the year, this team is regressing. They still haven't really found a 3rd scorer and they don't have a dependable center for Z and Nash.

I'd give it a week or so, but don't be surprised of Fedorov (maybe the Wings, more likely someone like Buffalo or Washington) and Foote (Washington) aren't with the Jackets by the end of February.....

Absolutely pathetic, boys. I should have gone on a profanity-laced tirade so they would've thrown me out of the arena. I can't believe I watched the whole thing. :smash:

Blue Jackets
Michael Arace commentary: Playoff bid seems out of reach once again

Brent Seabrook celebrates a goal against the Blue Jackets, one of four the Blackhawks scored in the first period last night en route to a 7-2 rout.

It was a nice run. The Blue Jackets for weeks and weeks have been injury-riddled and flu-ridden, and they've managed to stay in the playoff race. But it's over now. Cue the bugler.
The Jackets are not good enough, as the past two games have made plain. The Los Angeles Kings came to Nationwide Arena on Sunday night, pushed around the home team and won in a shootout. The Chicago Blackhawks came in last night, played pond hockey and won 7-2. This was flag dropping, to the lowest degree. These were critical games against the two worst teams in the West, if the standings are the barometer of such things. The Jackets came out flat both nights. Can anyone imagine them playing a pressure-packed game a month from now?

Fredrik Norrena sprays himself with water after giving up a goal. He gave up six goals in 28 shots.

During the Blue Jackets' six-plus seasons of chronic losing, there were more lopsided losses, certainly.
But the 7-2 humbling by the Chicago Blackhawks last night might be the most painful kick in the gut to date.
Carry the flag? The Blue Jackets might have waved a white one in front of 14,918 fans in Nationwide Arena.
If the playoff hopes aren't dead, they're gasping for air.

Jackets notebook: Norrena shoulders blame for loss

Defenseman Rostislav Klesia trips the Blackhawks' Tuomo Ruutu while vying for the puck near the Blue Jackets' net.

Blue Jackets goaltender Fredrik Norrena sat slumped in his locker room stall, his left hand cupping a face raw with emotion.
All around him teammates and coaches were throwing lifelines. Norrena wanted no assistance. A goalie who takes even preseason defeats to heart was smoldering after a 7-2 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks last night in Nationwide Arena.

look at the schedule
15-@ wings (on tsn)
17-@ blues
19-@leafs
21-@sens
23-@habs
then the deadline

the coffin could be sealed by the deadline.

dont forget ottawa on the feds side, murray is up there now.

I know....that's why I guess I'm a bit disappointed. Now watch they'll go out and rip through those teams and win 4 out of 5....

If they don't they had their shot and didn't get it done. With all the UFAs on this team it's time to get a center for Nash and perhaps another winger who can score and skate (Modin looks painfully slow anymore).....
