Columbus Blue Jackets (Official Thread)

Bucky Katt;1007453; said:
With Ryan Smyth having moved on from Edmonton, Columbus might actually have a chance against the Oilers. That guy brutalized the CBJ.

8 shots on goal, 3 assists, a +2 rating (and apparently a little goaltender interference to make his evening complete). Columbus needs to sign him just so they don't ever have to play against him again.

Great win boys! Hope that 3rd period play continues.

I hope the Jackets come out to play tomorrow night.

Minnesota was blown up by Detroit tonight 5-0. As per usual in the NHL, when a team gets beaten than badly (trust me it could've been 10-0 very very very easily, Detroit held onto the puck for what seemed like 50 minutes of the game), they usually come out flying in the 2nd night of a back to back....

Blue Jackets notebook: Fans can expect a chill

Saturday, December 8, 2007 3:04 AM
By Tom Reed and Aaron Portzline

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

The Blue Jackets have lowered the thermostat on game nights in Nationwide Arena.
It's not an attempt to save money on the winter gas bill but an effort to preserve the quality of ice.
General manager Scott Howson confirmed the drop in building temperature Wednesday, and it'll remain chilly tonight when the Blue Jackets play host to the Minnesota Wild.

Bob Hunter commentary: Jackets realize fans must be won back slowly

Some Blue Jackets fans are like a kid whose mother asks him to sample the cookies she's baking to see if they're any good.

"I'm not sure," the kid says. "Let me try another one."
What do you think now?
"Let me try another one," he says.
Now?
"Uh, maybe I'd better try one more?"
Some local hockey fans are up to 29 cookies, uh, games, and they're still not sure about a team that, after all they've been through, should taste pretty darn good. But they need to see another one, and another one, and another one, before they're ready take the plunge and give the team the thumbs up with their wallets.

Rick Nash, left, of the Jackets and Kim Johnsson of the Wild race for a loose puck in the first period.

Once again, the Blue Jackets had a flat-line start. But this time, they couldn't muster a fantastic finish.

By coach Ken Hitchcock's estimation, the Blue Jackets put in 12 hard minutes last night toward the end of a 2-1 loss to the Minnesota Wild, played in front of 15,666 in Nationwide Arena.
Afterward, Hitchcock was doing a slow burn.
"The consequences will start now," Hitchcock said.

Blue Jackets notebook: Wild's Voros accepts Boll's call to fisticuffs

Jason Chimera, left, and Blue Jackets teammate Dan Fritsche gang up on Todd Fedoruk of the Wild.

Minnesota Wild forward Aaron Voros didn't invent the code, he doesn't know its origin or even carry a dog-eared copy of it.

He knows the code verbatim, however, and is more than willing to uphold its 100 years of testosterone-enriched history.
If you injure an opponent, accidentally or not, you had better be prepared to face his teammates. So Voros didn't have a problem with the challenges he received last night in the Wild's 2-1 win over the Blue Jackets in Nationwide Arena. Jackets forward Jared Boll fought Voros in the second period after defenseman Ole-Kristian Tollefsen goaded him in the first period.

Jackets get down to basics in practice
Lackluster efforts spur work on fundamentals
Monday, December 10, 2007 3:04 AM

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

There was a little more bark in the commands given by Blue Jackets coach Ken Hitchcock yesterday, a little more wind blowing through his whistle.
As the Blue Jackets prepared to play Anaheim tonight in Nationwide Arena, however, it wasn't quite clear what Hitchcock meant after Saturday's 2-1 loss to Minnesota when he said, flatly, "the consequences will start now."

Jackets notebook: Sore hand not expected to keep Boll out

Monday, December 10, 2007 2:54 AM
By Aaron Portzline

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Jared Boll's right hand was swelled so badly yesterday that it looked cartoonish.
It was bright red, with a nasty inchlong scrape between the third and fourth knuckle.
"But it's not broken," the rookie right winger said. "We had two X-rays done."
Boll injured the hand during a second-period fight Saturday with Minnesota Wild rookie Aaron Voros.

Did I mention how much I HATE Anaheim in general and Chris Pronger in particular? :pissed:

Seriously though, good teams don't go 2 for 1,000 on the power play which the Jackets did tonight.

Unless they find someone to help out Zherdev and Nash, this team is going to have issues getting anywhere.

Rick Nash gets cross-checked in the back by the Ducks' Rob Niedermayer.

After two days of enduring the grumpy side of coach Ken Hitchcock, the Blue Jackets finally got him off their backs with a very workmanlike effort last night against Anaheim.
If only effort were enough.
The Blue Jackets felt as if they were up against not only the Ducks but two NHL officials, Dean Warren and Dean Morton.
By their way of thinking, perhaps the score should have read: Ducks and Deans 4, Blue Jackets 3 in overtime, before 11,984 in Nationwide Arena.

Gilbert Brule brings the puck up the ice against Joe DiPenta, left, and Todd Bertuzzi of the Ducks.

The penalty-killing unit has been the most consistent facet of the Blue Jackets' game this season.
When it goes bad, however, the opponents seem to fill the nets.
The Anaheim Ducks scored three power-play goals last night, including the winner by Chris Pronger in overtime, for a 4-3 victory in Nationwide Arena.
