THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

ST. LOUIS -- The Blue Jackets and Blues played a tactical masterpiece last night, a mentally taxing game in which the first club to blink probably loses.
It took 57 minutes for that to happen, but a costly turnover by Blue Jackets center Sergei Fedorov led to a go-ahead goal and a 3-2 win by the Blues in front of 19,150.

The Blue Jackets' Manny Malhotra reaches for the puck as the Blues' Erik Johnson defends.

ST. LOUIS -- Before the Blue Jackets played the Blues last night in the Scottrade Center, the Blues honored one of their greats, defenseman Al MacInnis.
MacInnis was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame on Monday.
During a 21-year NHL career that included 1,416 games, 1,274 points, a Stanley Cup, a Norris Trophy for best defenseman and a Conn Smythe Trophy for playoff MVP, MacInnis became known mostly for his slap shot.

The Blue Jackets played great. I was ready to bust my TV when Fedorov turned that puck over. I couldn't believe it.

Maybe I'm out of line, but I'll be happy to see him go. It just irks me that he's the kind of player he is and costs the club as much money as he does.

Re: Fedorov's $6.08 million and Foote's $4.6 million

I'm sure that next year the Blue Jackets can better utilize the $10.68 million they are paying Federov & Foote (i.e. sign several free agents that will vastly improve the overall performance of the team).

Paul Kariya scores a first-period goal past Blue Jackets goaltender Fredrik Norrena during a 3-2 Blues victory Friday night in St. Louis. The Blue Jackets were 6 of 6 in penalty-kill situations.

The Blue Jackets arrived in Joe Louis Arena on Nov. 9 with the best penalty kill in the NHL.

They left a few hours later a humbled bunch, having allowed two power-play goals in a 4-1 loss to the Red Wings. The Jackets know they'll have to do better today, when they play the Red Wings in Nationwide Arena.

Wins, not points, matter to Vyborny
Winger's goals are down, but he helps team in other ways
Wednesday, November 21, 2007 3:23 AM

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Blue Jackets right winger David Vyborny is on pace to score four goals and 29 points this season, about half his typical output.
The 32-year-old, in the final year of his contract, couldn't care less.
"I'm so excited about the team right now," Vyborny said. "Do you know what I mean?"

Michael Arace commentary: Jackets' first-round draft whiffs are evident

Last week, the Chicago Blackhawks were towed into town by Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews. At the time, the two rookies had more goals and points than any two Blue Jackets you could put together. The fine fans who have stuck with the Jackets through their colicky infancy and attention-deficit toddlerhood have to wonder, where the heck are our phenoms?

Duvie Westcott is getting over the effects of at least four concussions.

A lot of people around the Blue Jackets seem happy with the recent play of defenseman Duvie Westcott.
Westcott, however, isn't among them.
Yes, Westcott is pleased to be back in the lineup and contributing on offense. He won't be satisfied, though, until he regains the timing and fluidity he enjoyed before a spate of injuries began to bedevil him two seasons ago.
