THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

LOS ANGELES -- Last night was tough. Tonight should be even tougher.
The Blue Jackets played the resurgent Los Angeles Kings last night in the Staples Center.
Then the Jackets were to take a bus east to Anaheim, where tonight they'll face the defending Stanley Cup champion Ducks.

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- As expected, a game last night between the Blue Jackets and Anaheim Ducks devolved into a hard-checking, glove-dropping, punch-throwing competition of wills.
And in an affront to the hockey gods, it was decided with a shootout.
The Ducks won 2-1 in a game better suited to lumberjacks and leathernecks. Anaheim defenseman Mathieu Schneider, making his debut after missing the first 13 games because of a broken ankle, scored the only goal in the shootout.

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Blue Jackets goaltender Pascal Leclaire said he feels happy and healthy, but that's where the celebration ends.
Leclaire was named the NHL's second star for October yesterday. He is 6-2-0 with four shutouts, a 1.25 goals-against average and a .953 save percentage. "No offense," Leclaire said. "But I couldn't care less, really. Just keep winning. That's all I care about."

back to back games always suck, but they did get 2 or 3 days off before that, which is always welcome to them I'm sure.....

I wasn't really bitching about back-to-backs, just hate them on the west coast. I made it through the LA game, but as a result, I barely made it through the first period last night. :sleep2:

Can't win 'em all. From what I saw, the legs were not working so well last night, although the 4 consecutive kills in the 1st probably didn't help that. I'll gladly take 3 points out of 4 on a two-game Cali trip.

Come back strong on Sunday, boys.

Always good to see the that happen.

The Peter Forsberg-to-the-Blue Jackets rumors seem pretty outrageous at this point. But if the Jackets keep winning, there's a chance they could wind up on a list of teams he would consider.

Forsberg, a center, would prefer to play for a Stanley Cup contender, and he would be willing to do it for $2 million. Calling the Jackets a Cup contender is certainly a stretch, but if they can show they're a serious playoff contender, that might get their foot in the door.
Forsberg, who is returning to the ice in his native Sweden after undergoing foot surgery, would have to show general manager Scott Howson that he's healthy enough to play every day. Forsberg loves coach Ken Hitchcock, whom he played for in Philadelphia, and Hitch gets a little twinkle in his eye every time he talks about Forsberg.
Forsberg isn't a big-city snob, either; he waived his no-trade clause last year to go to Nashville.
Stranger things have happened, right? Well, maybe

The Columbus Dispatch : Bob Hunter commentary: Rumblings

Wow...if you would tell me 5 years ago we'd have Federov, Peca, Foote and a shot at Forsberg... I would say you were smoking that peyote.

true....back to backs are part of life for the NHL these days. Sorry I mis-read what you said

Hey Anaheim is still one of the elite in the West IMO. Right now the Jackets have gotten 3 of the 4 points possible against them. If it weren't for the absolutely awesome start by the Wings (I'm pretty surprised by it myself), the Blue Jackets are both right in the thick of the west race AND are easily the most improved team so far.

A date to circle on your calendars - March 16th. I know it's a LONG way off, but that will be their first time on NBC and it is at home against Detroit. I fully plan on being there although it'll be in my Wings jersey

NHL
Blue Jackets savor their first taste of 'playoff hockey'

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- After six NHL seasons, the Blue Jackets might have gotten their first taste of "playoff hockey" Thursday night.
A 2-1 shootout loss to the Anaheim Ducks was played at that kind of pace, with relentless hitting and an unmistakable edge. Most Blue Jackets were using the phrase after the game when, in fact, few know what the postseason really is like.
Defenseman Adam Foote, who won two Stanley Cups with the Colorado Avalanche, knows. So does coach Ken Hitchcock, who guided the Dallas Stars to the 1999 Stanley Cup.

Gilbert Brule came out on top in a shootout contest in practice designed to keep shooters loose.

Adam Foote

Next time the Blue Jackets play in a shootout, the first three shooters will be Gilbert Brule, Adam Foote and Michael Peca.
At least that's what the end-of-practice shootout contest revealed yesterday.
"We have some candidates and some nominations," coach Ken Hitchcock said, smiling. "The coach always reserves judgment."
The Blue Jackets, who play host to the St. Louis Blues today, have lost two games in shootouts already this season. They are 0 of 6 on wide-open looks at the goaltenders.

That was ugly. Flat, tired, uninspired effort.

They better play better than that Friday night or Detroit will skate them out of the building.

Vital stretch of games here. Next six are all against Central teams. (2 vs DET, 2 vs NSH, 1 vs STL and 1 vs CHI). Have to continue playing well. 1 or 2 wins out of this stretch won't cut it.

Get it back in gear, boys.
