Columbus Blue Jackets (Official Thread)

Question for those that would know:
Why are some players just NHL ready where some others need time in the minors (sometimes years)? Brassard for example. If he's tearing it up in the AHL why wouldn't that necessarily translate into the NHL? Is it simply the speed of the game like we hear in football? The physicality?
yes, yes, yes, yes.

a few things to add to that note ysu, i think you may see armband after the second go around. i compare it to say like basketball, his cute moves work once, will they work once a team has film on him? once they are keyed in on him? the size, speed etc are also in question but compare mike adams facing julius peppers, how would he fair? brass would have to go up against top flight centers night in night out, world class centers. thats the thing.

im not sure how to say this how i want to, i along with some others feel that in the preseason that brassard was set up in such a manner that he wouldnt be ober successful. he was never paired with nash for a reason, something deep down im happy for, something on the surface that irritates me. you will see derrick brassard this season, you will also see methot.

think about it like this, in hockey you typically dress 20 skaters, each of these has to play. its not like football or basketball where a quarter or more of your team wont see the field, every player plays. so that is why the development can be slower.

trust me when i tell you that this org is committed to winning long and short term.

Blue Jackets: 'Speed team' is back in vogue
Chimera, Malhotra, Fritsche like the fit of their retro line

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Swapping sweaty practice gear for suits and ties, Manny Malhotra and Dan Fritsche were among the Blue Jackets participating in the team's second annual charity fashion show Sunday.
Sauntering down the runway, the reunited line mates resisted the urge to model T-shirts they hope will become retro-chic.

Fredrik Modin could start on the first line Wednesday against the Kings after missing the past six games because of a groin injury.

Blue Jackets forward Fredrik Modin and defenseman Duvie Westcott returned to practice yesterday, but that's where the similarities ended.

Modin says his groin tear is healed and he's ready to play. Westcott, recovering from his second career concussion, offered no such pronouncement.
"I have no timetable right now," said Westcott, who has missed the past two games.

TSN : FANTASY?NEWS - Canada's Sports Leader

i have heard no factual reports on the foppa rumors, at this point

Does that mean you are hearing non-factual reports about foppa? Any thoughts at all on were he may end up?

I can't find a link to it on the Dispath website, but this bit was in today's paper:
Ken Hitchcock said yesterday that he had no contact with free agent Peter Forsberg, 34, who played for him in Philadelphia. "You can write that he's skating in North America. Most people think he's in Sweden," he said. So how does he know if he hasn't spoken to him?

Nothing more than a very faint insinuation and I put zero credence into it, but my goodness would it be incredible to bring him on. Downside of his career or not, I would piss myself with joy. :p

make that 3-0

But Chimera just ran over Nasher....

I was kinda hoping they'd be the 8 seed, so when the Wings are the 1 seed, I could wear my Yzerman jersey.

Instead I'll just wear my Shelley jersey and hope they face off in the 2nd round

Another good game for the team and another very impressive outing for Leclaire.

And the NHL schedulers can kiss my ass. Back-to-back west coast games suck! After staying up for last night's, there is about a .1% chance I'll make it through tonight's game. :pissed:

It's probably not too much fun for the players either.

back to back games always suck, but they did get 2 or 3 days off before that, which is always welcome to them I'm sure.....

This team has an unreal penalty kill going. Sure they gave one up last night, but they also killed off a 5 on 3 that lasted nearly 1:40.....

LOS ANGELES -- The focus of practice the previous two days was scoring ugly goals and forechecking the Los Angeles Kings into oblivion.
Check. Check.
The Blue Jackets, after a 4-1 win over the Kings last night in front of 11,491 in the Staples Center, could cross both items off the to-do list.
