I have something to offer here, but first let me apologize for resurrecting these posts. I was away from this thread for a week, so of course these are from like a hundred pages ago.

If the SEC wasn't scared to travel outside their home region, they'd [censored]ing do it.

We view it more as "needing to do that to win the BCSNC." Having the best football conference sort of immunizes us from the tenuous logic that "the SEC needs to play more OOC games!!" - at least for those embracing a theory that requires SEC OOC game results as an essential metric to validate our conference strength. The Boise States of the world need to do that.

We don't.

There are enough BCS games under our collective conference belts to have settled that issue definitively.

I'd like to see it as a fan. But we don't need to do it for any reason save fan enjoyment.

Well sure...that horse[Mark May] excuse works for the last decade at best. Now explain why they didn't do it for the hundred years prior.

So you're saying...William Sherman is to The SEC as Elvis is to the SEC? I've confused myself.

Bama was not an overrated 2011 BCSNC.

Sure they were. They should have dropped a bit more after losing to LSU at home. The fact that they were #2 at seasons end is evidence enough of that. I mean seriously...who did they beat? Don't even bother telling me the toughest conference in the world either cuz that's way overplayed. I will say this though..Florida had a MUCH tougher conference schedule than Bama did..in fact I'd say Florida had the toughest schedule in the conference last year.....

But back to Bama....other than LSU..did they play anybody? You might say they played Penn State and Arkansas..ok but in reality aren't they both second tier teams at heart in their respective conferences? So my point is this...beating Kent State...yes we played them...North Texas, Florida..sorry but true last year..Vandy, Ole Miss, Tenn, Miss. St. and Georgia southern doesn't make you a contender.

I might be way off but I get the feeling when the SEC puts together it's schedules they say "What 3 teams have the best chance to win every game...ok then they get the easiest conference schedule". It's brilliant I'll give em that. Hopefully the BIG will figure out how to do the same for us.

No problem. I just disagree.

So which conference gets to take on the top-3 SEC teams?

The University of Texas, they made it part of their contract with the Big 12.

I think Muck is working on that, but he's started with the first year of the BCS and is proceeding to the present. If you want, I can try to find the link.

I had it all on a thumb drive which I accidentally left in my pocket when I walked into one of the labs at work.

Result = nuked drive

I've been procrastinating on redoing it but will probably start posting them again tomorrow.

You want a hypothetical? Set aside the rivalry logic of Mike Hart & Troy Smith's involvement for a second.

2006:

Nov 18 - UM loses @ OSU in Cbus
Nov 25 - UM beats... OSU in Indy

Semis.. - UM faces OSU or USC

OSU would either face UM for a 3rd straight time or potentially meet them in the finals (3 times in 4 games)

Honestly? I'd watch at least two of those games, maybe all three, even if Nebraska wasn't in the B1G in 06 setting up the divisions and CCG. The Game is just good entertainment.

This is a wost-case scenario for repetition of play, but if it's good football, why not?

The biggest difference between this scenario and the LSU/'Bammer rerun last year was, neither team earned their right to be in the Championship game via playoff. It's different if they make it through other qualifiers.

A 4 team playoff based on top-4 in BCS would infuriate people in '10 & '09, especially back to back.

11 ... 4 STAN @ 1 LSU ... 3 OKST @ 2 ALA
10 ... 4 STAN @ 1 AUB ... 3 TCU @ 2 ORE
09 ... 4 TCU @ 1 ALA ..... 3 CIN @ 2 TEX
08 ... 4 ALA @ 1 OKL ..... 3 TEX @ 2 FLA
07 ... 4 OKL @ 1 OSU .... 3 VTC @ 2 LSU
06 ... 4 LSU @ 1 OSU .... 3 FLA @ 2 UM
05 ... 4 OSU @ 1 USC .... 3 PSU @ 2 TEX

An 8 team playoff with 6 super conference champs & 2 at large teams makes more sense imo, but Texas ruined that possibility.

Que?

What am I missing? Because Stanford would have gotten in both times, or because 2010 would have featured two Pac-10 teams and 2011 two SEC teams?

Bottom line, if they're the best teams, let them play. Both years would have featured three pretty good football games based on the matchups.

I would have loved to see Okie Lite face off against one of those SEC defenses - or both, if they get past Bammer.
