College Football Playoff (2016-2017 Season)

The previous years were set up very well for a four team playoff (even with the B-12 crap show of 2014). This year has already been a shit show. When have you ever seen multiple teams lose a game and not lose a spot in the polls? The committee should want Bama, UW, and Clem all to win to avoid "major" controversy. If UW or Clem goes down, then it's mich, CU, or B1G champ left to argue. mich at 5 has W's over all of those teams. So Bama v mich (1v4) and OSU v UW/clem (2v3). Or bump mich by a league champ that they beat? God I love this shit.

Where was that kind of charity last year after the MSU game? They don't seem to be playing by the same set of rules that they've applied in the past.

The difference is last year 'bama 38 ~ Sparty 0. And the committee doesn't want to look that stupid ever again. Ohio State lost at the wrong time to the wrong team. It's always better to lose early.

Again, this year the B1G hierarchy did everything in their power to screw the Buckeyes ie Sparty and TTUN back to back just like last year. And Wisky/ped back to back after coming off their bye wks. And of course the pedsters got lucky.

As mentioned earlier how nice would it be to play Charleston Southern/Chattanooga before The Game.

That's a potentially important question that I haven't seen discussed much, if at all: to what extent, if any, does the committee emphasize late season performance over early season performance? They may have done that a bit in 2014, because OSU did have a bad loss and finished strong. It's tougher for Penn State because they have two bad, early losses, but if they win the CCG handily they will have finished strong.

As much as I would love to see Penn State get left out of the playoff as Big Ten champions, in favor of TWO Big Ten non-champions (Ohio State and Michigan), I don't want Michigan included in the playoffs. If Michigan gets in, that diminishes one of the greatestestest games I've ever seen. No way do I want to see them have any hopes of redemption after that.

It would make me puke, but I'd rather puke watching Penn State win this year than puke watching Michigan win this year. Neither would happen - Bama would donkey-rape them both. But that might be pretty cool....

It's amazing how likable Wiscy has become w/o Bielema and given the alternatives . . .

What a BCS ranking would be (estimated, because the Harris Poll no longer exists, and Sagarin & Massey no longer publish PC rankings that don't factor MoV).

Approximate BCS Standings:

1. (12-0) Alabama, 1.000
2. (11-1) Ohio State, .955
3. (11-1) Clemson, .915
4. (11-1) Washington, .858
5. (10-2) Michigan, .823
6. (10-2) Wisconsin, .814
7. (10-2) Penn State, .725
8. (9-2) Oklahoma, .706
9. (10-2) Colorado, .694
10. (9-3) USC, .610
11. (9-3) Florida State, .573
12. (12-0) Western Michigan, .549

Seems to me the Committee, correctly in my view, looks at the over all body of work (ie, record) first and foremost. In saying Ohio State and Ped aren't comparable, the inescapable fact is, Ohio State has 1 loss and Ped has two. That being so, the Committee has refused to take a gander at H2H and Championships, etc. because those "tie breaking" factors aren't implicated. OSU and Ped aren't tied in the first instance. This goes back to ... I think Dryden's post that had Wisconsin and Ped both lost all of their OOC games, we'd still have those two teams playing next weekend. Had they each lost 4 games (three OOC and 1 in Conf (I guess Wisconsin would actual be a 5 loss, in that case, but whatever)) there wouldn't be any debate at all vis a vis Ohio State and the B1G champion. That's why I think Ohio State is a lock at this point.

Michigan is in the position that I feared we might end up in: to be jumped by the BTCG winner. Michigan is not getting into the playoff without a lot of crazy [Mark May] happening.
I don't know, I posted on the Championship week thread, all scUM really needs is a Washington loss. I am not sure Wisconsin can jump them. If any team can, it's them, but I am not sold that they can

I think Michigan would have a very good chance to play Alabama tough, and possibly beat them. I don't think it's implausible that even PSU could play Alabama pretty competitively.

Last year the committee picked who "deserved" it instead of the 4 best teams,...if they could go back a team with Zeke and Bosa would be in. They won't do that again ever.. that's what I got from the committee last night.
Not sure about that... they had a "tied" Ohio State and Sparty and took Sparty due to H2H and their Conference Title. That's completely consistent with what they've done and what they're saying now.

Yea plus there was only 1 game after that loss... this one we had 4 or 5 .. with several big time blowouts... under scores the fact... if you lose, lose early
