College Football Playoff (2016-2017 Season)

This is only the third playoff selection. Not much "precedent" set yet. And the only reason why we jumped Baylor and TCU in 2014 was because we fucking detonated Wiscy by 59 points...had we won that game 45-17 or something like that, it might not have enabled us to jump Baylor and TCU.
What people are also failing to account for is that TCU/ BAYLOR and OSU each had 1 loss.

The reason TCU fell to 6th was Baylor beat them head to head if I remember right. So when they dropped them they couldn't justify putting them in front of Baylor.

You don't have that this year because no matter what the big ten champ will have an extra loss. The two aren't even at the same table (OSU and PSU) and won't be even if PSU wins

My only disagreement is that they haven't punished tsun at all for a late November loss to an unranked team. So yes, given tsun's #5 ranking I can see all that. I don't think they should be #5.
They benefited from 3 of the top 4 all getting their first loss at the same time though. Then they have a double OT loss to us who was ranked 2nd. I for sure understand why they don't fall.

There's a bevy of two loss teams in that 6-12 rated spots and a few of them Michigan has already beat. They deserve that 5 spot as painful as it is for me to admitt it

Just a lucky scenario that everyone lost at the same time

Write it down. Underline it.

1. Washington will lose to Colorado, making tSUN look better
2. tSUN will slide up to #4
3. tSUN will beat Saban
4. tOSU will beat Clemson
5. the title game will be the mother of all rematches
6. Mark May will melt down and make coach booger look good by comparison

They will have trouble finding referees who are willing to work that night.

Making conference championships the be-all end-all is how we got some craptastic BCS games over the past 15 years that featured Kansas St or Colorado.

Sometimes one division has the two or three best teams. Face it: We're not determining conference champions by worth or merit, we're doing it by geography.

If we really cared about crowning a true conference champion in the B1G, you'd just re-seed everyone by W-L. Guess what? Ohio State and Penn State should be playing in Indy.

If I remember correctly from watching the playoff committee chairman's statements over the past couple of years, conference championships will only be used as a tiebreaker. That is, if two teams are estimated to be similar in strength, conference championships will be used to distinguish between them. I don't think conference championships are going to be used to evaluate teams until that stage is reached. Just my 2c.

Let me start by saying that the social media meltdown of PSU fan sites id hilariously amazing!

My take for this weekend:

If Washington loses and Penn State wins, I have a hard time believing colorado jumps from #8 into a 4 spot. This is scUMs shot of getting in. They will have a tough time putting a team (PSU) over a team (scUM) that beat them by 40! I think this may be their ticket back in.

If Washington loses and Wisky wins, hello Wisky! Wisconsin lost narrowly on the road to scUM and lost narrowly at home to Ohio state. Couple that with beating the big ten east "best" team and being conference champs, and I think it's a real possibility.

They had to keep scUM ahead of Wiscy and PSU for now due to identical records, schedule strength, and the head to head scUM wins over both of them. I think that if Wiscy beats PSU they will jump scUM. PSU, in contrast, had better beat down Wiscy if they want to do so due to the beatdown that scUM laid on them.

I think that UW and Clemson will both win and make all of the "controversy" vanish with little fuss. A Clemson loss puts in a second BIG team, hopefully BIG champ Wiscy.

The Committee will try very hard to avoid putting three BIG teams in and Colorado has the opportunity to put up the best win out there. My personal fappening occurs if somehow Colorado pounds UW, Wiscy barely beats the Pedsters on a controversial call, and the Committee chooses:

1. Alabama.
2. Ohio State.
3. Wiscy.
4. Colorado.

scUM is first out after thinking they'd be in based on the head to head vs. Colorado (which the Committee dismisses based on the injury to Liufau and Colorado's strong finish and conference championship vs. scUM's weak finish and 3d place in the BIG East) and the Pedsters are second out due to "corrupt" officiating. My God, I'm getting Elephantine wood just thinking about it.

EDIT: Obviously, my fappening also requires a Clemson loss.

So...thread merging not a thing over there, huh?

Ha. To be fair, 5 threads were from BWI, and 2 were from Audibles. But you're right - both of those sites are really sloppy. I've actually noticed that at a lot of sites. But yeah - BWI is especially bad. They do have some multiple-page threads, so you know that people DO read existing threads. But I almost think that someone has something to say, he just starts a new thread. Bleh.
