College Football Playoff (2016-2017 Season)

Who knows what those people are going to do? Tsun lost to Iowa and did not drop out of the top, did they? Where was that kind of charity last year after the MSU game? They don't seem to be playing by the same set of rules that they've applied in the past.

CFP chairman:(bold is mine)
“Penn State remains at the seven spot, Ohio State’s at the two spot,” Hocutt told Rece Davis on ESPN. “There’s still separation there.”
When Davis asked whether Hocutt was saying the Nittany Lions and Buckeyes are not close, Hocutt responded, “I’m saying that they’re not close in the eyes of the selection committee.”

Davis then asked Hocutt what Penn State could do to surpass Ohio State and whether the Nittany Lions winning the Big Ten Championship Game could close the gap. Hocutt’s answer implied that the Buckeyes’ body of work differentiated them from Penn State (and Wisconsin, which will also play in the conference title game).

“I want to emphasize that our protocol is to select the four very best teams in college football,” Hocutt said. “When the selection committee believes there are comparable teams, when two teams are comparable, there’s razor-thin margins between the two, that’s when we go to the protocol and the metric, being conference championships, strength of schedules, head-to-head and outcomes against common opponents.”

There's no way Michigan should be in over a conference champion with the same number of losses as them. Championships SHOULD matter, but not in tOSU's case because we have FEWER losses.
They beat both... one of them by 40.

Personally Michigan is at the 5th spot to protect OSU. This way they can claim that both the Champs lost to the 5th ranked team.

Michigan is a much better team then both and that's what this committee is deciding. Not conference champs

Basically he was like "LMAO get the fuck out of here with that Penn state nonesense"

Bama would win but that mobile QB who has an uncanny knack for the deep ball and some damn good receivers is the exact thing Sabans defense doesn't want to see.

PSU would have a punchers chance, imo.
Oh my God no... they would get beat as bad as Michigan beat them. PSU needed a 9 for 25 performance against us at home with two weeks to prepare to manage 250 yards or so.

What do you think Saban will do with two weeks?

What makes you say Michigan is much better than Wisconsin? Wisky's only losses are close ones to Mich and tOSU.

If Wisky beats PSU they should be in.

Michigan might only need 1 loss to get in. 2 losses and they're definitely in.

Where did I read that there's on a couple of dominoes that need to fall to have Bama and three B1G teams? It's set up for two losses for that to happen. They left themselves the ability to jump tsun with a strong Wisky showing. I do expect one of Clemson or Washington to fall this weekend... but the committee did the right thing with putting Clemson and Washington in a place of right of first refusal.

Good weekend of football coming up...

Michigan missed 3 field goals that game and thoroughly won that game. Sure Wisconsin is a nice team (especially that defense) but just not as good as michigan.

They're playing this by the eye ball test this year which is best because last year they went with the conference Champs and they saw a 20% decrease in ratings and an ass beating in both quarterfinal games because of it.

Not to mention that we will always pass the eye ball test. We always have very untimely loses and holding an OSU team out that drives ratings and btw is better anyways then 98% of college football is a smart decision all the way around

I said I think Bama would win but there is no doubt in my mind that a mobile QB who is good at chucking it deep is the last thing in the world Bama's defense wants to see.

I get your point. But putting 1 B1G team over the B1G Champion is enough imo. Otherwise it would set a precedent that might be the end of the 4 team playoff format. And it also makes conference championships useless.

If Penn State wins, their record and pedigree would be similar to Michigans. According to the selection committee, when this happens, four things should be looked at, in no particular order:

Championships won: Adv PSU
Head to head: Adv Mich
Strength of schedule: Adv Mich
Comparative outcomes of common opponents: About even, slight edge to PSU

Looks to me if they stick to their criteria, Penn State needs to beat Wisconsin by my more than 7 to even jump Michigan.

If Wisky wins...same thing:

Championships won : Adv Wis
Head to head: Adv Mich
Strength of schedule: Barely Mich
Comparative outcomes of opponents: Even (depending on outcome of CCG)

So unless Wisconsin beats PSU by more than 39, if they stick to their criteria, they really shouldn't rank Wisconsin ahead of Michigan.

If it's this tough for them to pass Mich, how in the world could they pass Ohio State? They can't. They won't.

I've changed my opinion from a few days ago a little.

If no upsets happen, the top four will all make the playoff.

If Wash or Clemson lose, I think they find a way to get B1G champ in. But honestly, if the B1G CCG is close, they could totally put Mich in using their own criteria.

If both Washington and Clemson lose, they really should put Mich and B1G champ in. Colorado has no business in, because of head to head and weak SOS compared to Mich. And Oklahoma also loses out to Mich in SOS and common opponents.

They also opened this door saying their goal is to get the four best teams in, not the four most deserving.

Makes me really think Michigan could sneak in, as bad as it would look.

I personally don't want this. I don't want any possibility of playing them again. None.

The teams I want to play, in this order, are:

1. Penn State
2. Washington
3. Oklahoma
4. Wisconsin
5. Clemson
6. Alabama

My best guess is we are playing Clemson. And we are almost a lock to play in Glendale. Although if Bama does lose, we really could sneak into #1 the more I think about it. Then we play Washington in Atlanta! That won't happen, but would be sick.

My only disagreement is that they haven't punished tsun at all for a late November loss to an unranked team. So yes, given tsun's #5 ranking I can see all that. I don't think they should be #5.

They have set the precedent that a CCG matters. It did in 2014, but both Baylor/TCU and tOSU had the same number of losses.
This is only the third playoff selection. Not much "precedent" set yet. And the only reason why we jumped Baylor and TCU in 2014 was because we fucking detonated Wiscy by 59 points...had we won that game 45-17 or something like that, it might not have enabled us to jump Baylor and TCU.
