College Football Playoff (2016-2017 Season)

It puts the BiG champ at greater odds to get in than Bama if Alabama loses and both Clemson and Washington win. I don't buy that.

Yeah, I wouldn't take it too seriously. I just thought it was fun. I still like our chances, regardless.

I do like the scenario where it ends up Bama, tOSU, PoSU, Colorado. The Pedsters in a semifinal game? Oh please, oh please...

So correct me if I'm wrong, but does making the CF Playoffs without having to play in your conference championship game make Urban Frickin' Meyer the biggest college football genius of all-time ... or just lucky.

Or both. ok, it helped that the B1G has overtaken the SEC as best conference and whoever scheduled that Oklahoma away game. And that Oklahoma sucks early, but finishes strong.

Indeed, not having to play another sledgehammer game vs Wisky w/nothing to gain and everything to lose. Pure genius!

btw, if 'bama beats the Gators Alabama will be undefeated and every other SEC team will have at least (4) losses. So just how good is the Crimson Tide?

the yin/yang of college football ...

Satan did it in the BCS era. The best part? He sat on his couch while the team who beat him - LSU - had to win the SECCG to get in it. Their reward? They had to beat Bama again, to win the title. We all know that didn't happen.

I don't know if that was genius, or just voters giving Satan a do-over to validate their preconceptions? I just know I didn't watch a second of that title game.

Because if Wisconsin wins the game we can claim both a head to head victory and a better record. If Penn State wins we have a better record but they have both a conference championship and they beat us.
That is what it is going to come down to. If Wisconsin wins we are in, if State Penn wins they are in and we need Washington to lose. Unless they want better ratings, then OSU is in along with State Penn.

PSU isn't going in over osu. they may get the nod over washington, but they aren't dropping osu just so psu can get rolled by 40 by alabama.

I'm surprised [fivethirtyeight] suggests that our odds are better to get in if Penn State wins instead of Wisconsin...
Because we would have a "better" loss?

I think LL was speculating on what the possible rationale could be for projecting that a PSU CCG win helps OSU's chances more than a Wisconsin win does. I doubt it is true that a PSU win helps, but LL's guess seems like the only rationale for why it would.

If the playoff committee used their own rankings and last logic, the top 8 in the rankings tonight should be the exact same as last week, in my opinion.

Mich played like the #3 team, and their win over Colorado is looking as good as ever.

Ohio State has a beef to be #1 in my honest opinion. Are they better than Alabama eye test wise, no. But as far as resume and sos, they are better in my opinion, and last year that is what put 1-loss Alabama ahead of an undefeated national champion Ohio State in the early November rankings. Exact same situation in reverse this year.

I truly believe if you took the resumes, and switched them, but kept the names, that 11-1 Alabama would be ahead of 12-0 Ohio State

I still assume no matter what happens with the conf championship games, tOSU is in the playoff. I think the committee puts them in at 2 or 3. That way they get the ratings from both bama and tOSU fanbases in the semifinal and possibly both for the championship.

What's really bugging me is that last year's team should have been in and definitely had a chance to win it all (at least with how they played scum and ND in the bowl). This year I think they've earned their spot in the playoff, but unless they have an epiphany in the passing game in the next month, another NC seems pretty unlikely.
