College Football Playoff (2015-16 Season)

So, two separate metrics (I'll add a third: College Football Outsiders and their S&P+ ratings) all agree that 'Bama is in the top 4, and you claim that is "evidence of everything that was wrong with the BCS."

Presumably you'd replace the entire system with a panel of Buckeye fans. Those who agree with you, that is.
I think Bama is easily top-4, just not #1, and the major human polls have reflected that as well. I just think Sagarin's computer polls aren't any better than broad human polls, and putting Bama #1 is a good example of the inherent flaws in ANY computer ranking system.

Why don't we include ESPiN's laughable FPI while we're at it?

Just checked it for laughs...

Derivative rankings aren't evidence.
Game results, now that's evidence... last I checked, Ole Miss still beat them and exposed a weakness that hasn't been fixed. Their QB play is still shoddy at best.
I haven't said that they're unbeatable, or that they have no flaws. I agree with you - Coker isn't top drawer (though "shoddy" is an exaggeration; he's mediocre by big-college standards).

FPI is ESPN's proprietary "computer rankings"... you're looking at the "people poll".
Their computer ranking is already out for the week... and yes, it really has OU and Baylor as 1/2.

If you look to any system (computers, "eye test," little Janie throwing darts at a board) to find precisely correct placement of a team within the entire collection of D1 teams, you're looking for something that won't exist. Likewise, if you look to any ranking system (even one provided by an all-knowing deity) to be absolutely correct in predicting the winner of every game, you're looking for a unicorn.

You've admitted here that Bama is "easily top 4," which is all I'd ever argue at this point (and all I ever argued here to begin with, which set off a flurry of anti-SEC rants and a bunch of people disputing with me, one of whom now apparently agrees with me). Other teams I personally would put in based on my own "eye test" would be Oklahoma and maybe Climpson, along with of course Ohio State. But it's just my opinion.

So the MaxBuck Eye Test Top Four:

1. Ohio State
2. Bama
3. Oklahoma
4. Climpson

Other strong contenders for the top ten would include Baylor, Michigan, Florida, Okie State, Michigan State, LSU and North Carolina.

Iowa would not be in my top ten.

Thanks for the clarification.

Good stuff. Apparently the computers hate defense. It's got 4-6 UWash at #36 ahead of #45 7-3 PSU and #61 8-2 Northwestern. Also, 10-0 Iowa (#29) is one spot ahead of 3-6 Georgia Tech.

LSU? What impressed your eyes? I didn't see their game against Florida but they didn't impress against Alabama or Arkansas,.

Computers just do what humans tell them to do.

My problem is more with ESPN and their stupid humans.

There's not going to be any last week juggling similar to last year. Right now, the top 4 (Clemson, Ohio State, Alabama and ND) control their own destiny. Win out, and they'll be in. There might be some shuffling of seeding, but nobody is going to get bumped.

I'm hoping against hope though for some real carnage that would allow the B1G runner-up to sneak into the 4 spot and then have an all B1G final.

Hey, rest of college foosball..........

Thanks for the reminder. I can handle MSU or Iowa as a big ten champ. We don't have to win it every year. I will lose my [Mark May] if ttun wins it. I will just feel better when someone beats them and ensures it's impossible for them to make the title game. I know, I know, we should beat them, but I'll just feel better when they lose again. PSU is a huge pain in the ass in an 8:00 game a home, here's for a white-out, GO BITCH LIONS!
I think it's supposed to be a white out, but not sure if 8pm. Pretty late in November.

An undefeated OK ST will knock out ND if Alabama, Clemson and OSU/Iowa win out.
