Colin Cowherd (Official Ass Hat)

I remember those... especially the one about OSU will beat Texas 99-0 or something to that effect. But when he was making those comments he was degrading the Big 12 hype machine more so than he was giving us props.

maybe so but that is deffinatly not how i heard it. He called tOSU "Big Boy Football" with a "Real Stadium" and they "Play the right way with a real qb" and so on. Much of it was degrading the big 12, like his mention of all of the great big 12 qbs in the nfl; however, if i am not mistaken he had tOSU in the Rose Bowl. I would call that respect

I could be wrong.... but his comments make no sense. Maybe he did think OSU had a chance at the title and now he has changed. Who knows for sure... but maybe also he is trying to talk up Oregon without being blatant about it. If you had the task of talking about an at large team and having a chance to sway opinions prior to selections would you:

1. Talk about a team's merits with a questionable schedule in a questionable conference with less national appeal

or

2. Downtalk the perceived better team and talk about their flaws and how "they don't show up" in big games, even in victory like Michigan.

It is just my thought, as I've stated who knows for sure. The fact that he was a sports anchor in Portland only strenghtens my notion. You can bring doubt upon any team, and he is focusing on Ohio State. Something is not jiving.

Look, I don't want to put a nail in the coffin of any thread that has started to debate -- even for just one fleeting post - the relative merits of grape soda. but.

As for Cowherd, there really is nothing to analyze, he's simply pushing buttons, being a canard, stating something for effect - being an ass - and not to be taken seriously when he contradicts himself.

Now what about that grape soda issue that's gripping the headlines?

Spring Grove - MN
(And you don't have to dig to buy it.)

Colin Cowherd? Callin' cow herd? That's the best he could do for a stage name? And we're supposed to care about his opinion?

I never heard of this guy before you guys spoke about him. When I heard his program in the US, I found it and him to be very boring.

So, what's the point? He's an entertainer and poser, not a player in the BCS set-up. He isn't setting anything up, he's just trying to get Ohio State fans excited so he will appear to be important.

"Forgettaboutit baby. This race is over."

Turn him off and let's try to get this thread off the front page as quickly as possible.

Yesterday he said (at least, I think he was the one who said it) that as far as he's concerned, Ohio State is in the SEC now. He considered it a promotion to Ohio State, as he feels the SEC is the better conference. I felt insulted, though. Sometimes it seems like he has a brain, but chooses not to listen to it, and other times it seems he has no brain, but he is pretending that he does.

Yesterday, Colin Cowherd did a hilarious bit about the wonderlic, ripping a number of schools including OSU (it was cheap, but funny). Problem was he didn't bother to admit that they didn't come up with it, let alone who deserved credit.

Obviously everyone knew he was a tool, but you think he could at least give credit to where it was found, if they honestly didn't know. Check out this sheer "douchebaggery" as described quite well by mgoblog's guys:
Colin CowherdItSomewhereElseFirst Responds

Well, thought folks might like to see how Colin CowherdItSomewhereElseFirst responded to our email. I noticed he didn't credit "whoever" he claims sent it to him yesterday, either.

Loved the Wonderlic bit you did yesterday. Liked it better when we

As so many of you have pointed out, interesting how on the show he says they found it on the Internet that day yet in his response, he claims it was sent to him.

Another M Zone reader got the following response to his email. I have edited out his personal info.

Well here's a copy of the email I sent and the response I received from this guy who seems to believe it's more important to rip on me than address the real issue:

yea..losing a lot of sleep.

I can't believe you used material from the MZone without giving the source. Very unethical. The material from this website is excellent and definitely deserved a reference on your show. You should be ashamed.

Here is yet another, personal info edited out:

To our readers...

We must say, life was a lot less...hectic when we were talking about scantily clad co-eds and bashing our Big 10 brethren in Columbus.

Just want to say thanks for all the support, even from traditional rivals. We've said it before but we'll say it again (and keep saying it), it's much appreciated.

As we said in the post that started this little firestorm, each of our contributors do this site for free. There is no advertising and we've been too damn lazy to open a CafePress account to try to sell anything. It's just a hobby and passion in order for us to talk, bitch and have a few laughs about some of our favorite topics (like the above-mentioned scantily clad co-eds). Thus, the fun of doing it comes from your emails and comments (yes, we're easily amused).

As such, unlike Mr. CowherdItSomewhereElseFirst in his reply to one of our readers, we appreciate the blogging and sports board community. Without it, we might as well just go back to emailing each other. If you notice, unlike a lot of sites that are "pro" a certain team, unless it's particularly vulgar or offensive (or that one LSUoverSC dude putting up the same link over and over again), we leave comments up - those that like the site and those that don't. That's the beauty of it.

Some have commented that this is a "great" thing for us due to the increase in traffic. But whether we have a million visitors in a day or just Wangs's mom, the pay is the same. While it's nice to have all the new readers, we'd prefer they were reading our material (and voting in the our Blog Co-ed Showdown). Besides, keeping up with all this new traffic makes for a bitch of a time pulling off the charade that is each of our real jobs.

Also, some of you have said we should sue or get him fired or worse, make him move to Columbus (sorry, old habits). But this isn't and never was about money or a man's job. Put simply, it was about credit where credit was due. Had Mr. CowherdItSomewhereElseFirst said, "Sorry, my bad" - or anything close - that would have been the end of it. Instead, he had to be even "douchebaggier" in his response. I guess that's the most disappointing thing of all.

In any event, just our long winded way of saying thanks for the support. It's appreciated.

Sincerely,

The M Zone Gang

I thought the entire Wonderlic bit was hilarious, even the OSU part. This whole post is a general response to some other "talk" I've heard about the subject recently...not a response to JWinslow's post.

My observations on the subject:

1. Cowherd is the best sports guy on the radio and perhaps the best regardless of genre. He's quick witted, intelligent, observant, funny, slightly disturbed and well-spoken. All make for great radio.

2. Colin is about as far from anti-OSU as they come. I've disagreed with his opinion on the Buckeyes before, but his opinions aren't due to a lack of respect or a functional dislike of the University. He calls it like he sees it. If anything, Colin leans toward being pro-USC, Ohio State and Notre Dame and anti-Penn State, Texas and Michigan. This time, he was just going for a laugh.

3. I completely believe that he got the material from a random fan and decided to share it on air. He never claimed the bit to be his own. When the Michigan blog was brought to his attention, it was done so in such a way that caused an unapologetic reaction. The great part about being a radio guy is that, if you want the last word, you can pretty much get it.

4. I hope he isn't getting mass e-mails from Ohio State fans. As big of a Buckeye fan as I am, it seems like I have an ever declining opinion of our fanbase. Some Buckeye fans get so hyper-sensitive, that it seems everything gets taken as an intentional jab at the University. Every talking head that speaks highly of us becomes intelligent and objective...but if you pick against us in a game, fail to rank us #1 or make a legitimate (and funny) joke on the radio about the program, you become controversial, idiot tool.

It's great how we laugh about the jokes made about other schools, but get our panties in a wad, when we are the butt of the joke. We need more "Tibor" fans who can take some criticism...not only dish it out.
