This is the rub. The committee looks at resumes on a weekly basis. It's how things stand at that point in time. Prior to last weekend, tOSU had a weaker resume than TCU. However, after last week, tOSU was an outright conference champion, and had two impressive blowout wins on their resume. TCU was a "co-champ" and their "biggest win" took a serious hit when OU lost. After last weekend, tOSU simply had the better resume. Like you said, this isn't like the AP and coaches "win and advance" polls.TCU fell to #6, because they lost to Baylor, and didn't win their conference. Problem is, people want to treat the committee rankings like they treated the polls, and it is a completely different system.
I disagree. They are "point in time" rankings and they help gauge where you are and where you need to go. Plus, unlike the other polls, they're fluid. Plus/plus, unlike the AP and Coaches polls, they wait until some football is actually played, and decent opinions can be formed before even releasing their initial poll. I think it's useful to have weekly rankings after a reasonable opinion can be formed. There really isn't any point in releasing the committee rankings before the end of the season.
*Edit* Wow, we've drifted really off topic here. This stuff should probably be moved to the "polls" or "playoffs" threads.
