Coaching changes: coaches hired and fired, comings and goings

It might be comical if there are some major violations or something coming out of Lubbock in the near future, prompting the surprising move. Doubt there's anything.

UC must have assurances it has a spot in a new conference.

TT must have seen that Leach was right about Tech

That's what I'm thinking. He was already on the hot seat after posting a 5-7 record last year, and the Red Raiders folded down the stretch this year too. That administration is dysfunctional already, and with the poor record and the GA incident he'd given them enough reason to shop around.

My initial reaction was that Cincinnati had pulled a coup and that he might be a better hire (relatively speaking) than the ones made by most of the SEC schools that were searching for coaches.

Then my thoughts went to, what the heck is wrong at Texas Tech. UC is a step down in nearly every respect.

Then I thought, if UC can shake this guy loose from Texas Tech, why aren't mid- and lower-tier B1G schools able to make better hires like this? UC has all the same disadvantages, and many more to go with it.

Then I remembered Ron Zook. This has that kind of vibe to me and I'm glad he didn't end up at a place like Illinois or Minnesota.

He's a name that people recognize, so it's a PR win for UC and their athletic department. It may even lend them enough cachet for a short time to get their ticket punched into a big-boy conference if the dominoes fall soon enough. In the long term though, I don't see it working out as well as any of their last few hires.

The funny part is, all of the juggalos that re-emerged on my twitter feed today. Some of them even implied that this changed their standing as a football program in the state of Ohio... as if the arrival of this guy somehow made Ohio State not Ohio State anymore, and UC not UC anymore. C'mon.

Tubby is a good coach.
He'll bring an edge to that team (if they want it).

He never fit well at Tech, and he has been looking for a way out ever since he got there. He tried to get the miami job when they hired golden.

At Auburn, he had a way of knocking off highly ranked opponents on a regular basis. And even in the losses, they were at least competitive.

And yet...UC will remain UC.. Somewhat less than little brother status. Fuck 'em and fuck Tubster. Punk bitch will get his soon enough.

I believe it was NFBuck that said "this fuck sounds like he was named after a Dr. Seuss character."
