That's not exactly the whole story. Shaq's professor was fine with basketball player marketing himself, because by the time Shaq got to LSU, there were already shoes and major marketing campaigns for guys like Michael Jordan, Magic, Johnson, Larry Bird, and Dr J. His professor didn't think that a Center could be marketed to the public, as they were so big and wouldn't be relatable.absolutely gets credit for it.

slightly off topic, but Shaquille O’Neal is another.
when he was a student at LSU, he flunked a Business class because his business model was “not realistic”.
His business plan was to market himself as a basketball player and personality.
His professor said there was no way that would ever work in America and flunked him.
guess we know who was right in that scenario
I also played CB in HS, and my dad had a cup of coffee in the NFL in the mid 60's. He had me watching film on Deion, Green, Woodson, and a name that isn't mentioned much because his teams always sucked, Aeneas Williams. Deion was way more technical than you're giving him credit for. Being able to shutdown an entire side of the field is a skill, and it's not just because he was fast. But knowing that if all you do is play well, and you won't get recognition, and you won't get as much money as the guys who you're shutting down. Brilliant marketing strategy, and something he continued to use throughout life. Hence why we're talking about him now for getting a P5 job after only coaching at the FCS level for 2yrs. And also why so many talented players are now requesting to transfer or be recruited by Colorado. He's brought a buzz to 2 programs that have hardly been paid attention to in decades, and it's due to his persona, charisma and being Primetime

It's not exactly the offseason, but it's prebowl season ... and we did think it was over for us just a few days ago.
And it is effectively over for LSU.
I used to watch all the bowl games, but with everyone opting out, their inconsequential nature, and life... I just can't be arsed anymore.
In other news, I still don't see this being the homerun that JSU was. CU is a career killer, regardless of hype.
And I have a feeling his shenanigans won't play well in fart-sniffing Boulder once the honeymoon period ends.
