Coaching changes: coaches hired and fired, comings and goings

But that’s not the case, it’s Deion “Primetime” Sanders, and that’s what makes this story that much more interesting. His persona is what makes people watch, and for JSU to give him a chance.
So that argument isn’t a exactly the best, since there’s only 1 PrimeTime

Uh, please believe that all of these kids’ parents and coaches have seen Neon Deion, and have them watching all of his highlights and interviews on YouTube. Also, Deion was also an NFL analyst and has stayed active on social media and has had a reality show. Deion is not someone like Otto Graham Chuck Bednarik, teenagers still know Deion. And even more, they know his son, through football and social media as well.

He’s not just A Hall of Famer to even younger generations

BECAUSE OF HIS PERSONA

Joe Smith thing aside, I've kind of always admired Deion for having the good sense to build a brand even as far back as his college days.

Never been in any kind of real trouble that I can recall, fantastic player and master marketer. I respect the hell out of the guy personally.
Biggest knock in him is he wasn't exactly Antoine Winfield as a tackler or in the run game generally.

i saw all of Deion’s career.

hell, i played the same positions in High School (CB PR/KR).

trust me, you don’t make a film study on his technique.
his success was purely “be fastest dude on the field”.

if not for his persona, he’d be Darell Green.
great player.
deserving to be a Hall of Famer.

but ask kids today who he is, and you’ll get a whole lot of “who?” type responses.

absolutely gets credit for it.
it worked like a charm.

slightly off topic, but Shaquille O’Neal is another.

when he was a student at LSU, he flunked a Business class because his business model was “not realistic”.

His business plan was to market himself as a basketball player and personality.

His professor said there was no way that would ever work in America and flunked him.

guess we know who was right in that scenario :slappy:

True but he never bullshitted anyone about it. He called it a business decision damn near from day 1 as I recall.

In his era I always thought Rod Woodson was an overall better DB because he would come up and bring the lumber but the reason Deion is Prime Time and not Joe Smith the HOFer is because he made the conscious decision to not be Joe Smith as an 18 year old. That takes a clarity of vision that a lot of people just don't have.

it’s also because of the persona.

the Hollywood. Sunglasses, the smoke, the dancing, etc.

Woodson is actually a really good name.
Another my old DC would show us was Eric Wright from the 49ers.

to us DBs trying to learn the game, they were awesome to see.

to the casual fan tuning in on Sundays?
they wanted to see Deion strut and dance and high step.

so, my claim to fame (relatively speaking of course) and to get things back somewhat on topic.

As a sophomore in HS.
i picked off Herb Tyler (future LSU starting QB, also bounced around some arena type leagues), returned it inside the 20-ish.

i celebrated as if we just won the Super Bowl.
We talking Deion level informing Herb i just sniped him. Right up in his face. Got me a 15 yarder for it.
(By the way, no fucking way in hell was he 5’ 10” like he was listed in LSU’s program, because my 5’ 8” self looked down into his eyes)

my DC (RIP Coach Buck) met me at around the hash and drug me off the field by my face mask while blessing my soul, cursing my momma (as in he literally told me he was going to fuck my mom, even calling her by her first name), and threatening to kill my grandmaw if i ever did anything that again.

I don’t think you could get away with doing that today.

Agree

Hypotheticals can be fun to discuss, but the reality is Deion is a big persona along with being a hall of fame player.

He is who he is, so discussing what he would be if he were someone else is futile.
