It could be a bad sign, or I could see it being a father looking out for his son and being realistic about his chances of seeing playing time...letting the son know the hard reality that it might be best for the son's own career to try to find a place where he can start.

Who should be the next Gopher coach?

Spend the money on a proven big-name college coach
Hire a young, overachieving coach from a smaller school who will stay and build the program
Try to lure an available coach like Tony Dungy or Dennis Green
I don't care, just find a winner

The Gophers fired Tim Brewster as football coach Sunday morning. Co-offensive coordinator Jeff Horton will take over the head coaching duties for the season?s final five regular-season games.
The school has scheduled a news conference at 1 p.m.
?While I appreciate the passion and commitment that Coach Brewster has shown, it is clear that a change in the leadership of Gopher football is necessary,? Gophers Athletic Director Joel Maturi said in a statement released by the university. ?We have high aspirations for our football program and we are not satisfied with its current direction. The results so far this season have been unacceptable and the program has simply not shown enough improvement over the past three and a half years to continue with the status quo.?

Nevah happen in the Big 10. He'd say something outrageous about women/academics/marriage/officials and the entire conference would rise up to censor him. Yeah, yeah, what about Bobby Knight? He started out in a different era and he kept his worst thoughts to himself, but then the world changed.

And this is the loser athletic director who's setting himself up to tell the other Big Ten universities what they can and can not do regarding a Big Ten Hockey Conference. Of course the guy's a domer alum and former Fredo AD, so I guess such clueless hubris is to be expected.

UM Prez should have made it a two for one deal and cleared out both of them.
